According to Rick after around two thousand shots my Hatsan 135 is producing a tight 936.8 fps (9.9 fps spread, 3.0 fps standard deviation with 14.6 grn field target trophy pellets. That's 28.46 foot pounds of energy and he was getting open sight groups at 10 yards of .33".
The rats have been partying but the party is soon going to be over. There will be no mercy because I have several new rat holes to aim at and I know when they come out. With the gap in the rat shooting I don't think they will have a clue what's happening until it's too late.
If you have a Hatsan rifle with Quatro trigger you should read my post about adjusting my trigger and bending my barrel. I had hold of the barrel and the stock got away from me. I was lucky it didn't pinch the ever living $%&# out of me. I blame only myself because I had already found out and posted that I couldn't find anything between a 4lb trigger and a uncontrollable trigger. I knew what I was getting into, held onto the barrel and messed up. The best you are going to get out of this trigger is about 4lbs. Attempt to get a lighter trigger at the risk of a bloody mess and a expensive repair bill.
I also stand by my posted review of the Hatsan 135 which I believe was thought to be on the negative side. This rifle is hard to shoot, takes time to get past the learning curve for a good shooter and is not for beginners. But there's nothing like hearing a 18 grn pellet slam into my steel pellet trap instantaneously at around 900 fps with half the groups being 1/2" center to center or less with an average of about .75". That's what I was getting out of my Hatsan before my problems. If .33" for 10 yards translates to .66 at 20 yards I may be getting a better rifle out of this deal and that's KOOL!!!

I see you share my passion. Between traps, poison and shooting I got 30 last year. I quit trapping and poison and I'm only shooting now. I really believe it's more humane. My year has been thin too but I see the numbers going up soon. Seriously I would just live and let live but they just will not go away and they keep coming. They're like RAT CONG. I can see my family on top of the house with a helicopter hovering overhead to pick us up. Not serious but I swear I don't understand where they all come from.

Sounds like you're going to be having some fun soon.
I used to have lots of rats and I shot them all and then we got a cat. >:(
Good news is the cat is gone and I just saw the first rat about a week ago. I was elated! I know most people would cringe at the thought but I share the same passion as you and Mister Stefan there ;)
Congrats on your shooter coming home soon. I can't wait to hear about your adventures with those rats, hehe.
Keep us posted!

I'm working on getting myself a vintage shooter here soon. I don't have to worry about a cat because my son is severely allergic to them and my mother who loves cats and lives with us will not get one because she knows he will not be able to visit. Anyway I don't think a cat could handle the rats I have because a lot of them are as big as squirrels. I don't know if it's some kind of large NC subspecies or what but they are big? They're probably just eating everyones dog food and living fat and happy until they pop their head up behind my house? I'm yet to post any pictures in the hunting forum because a bloody rat doesn't make for for a picture I want to take or see. They're just not worth the time to compress the picture and post it. I'll post about the Rat destruction to come and I may post some pictures just to satisfy some curiosity and how big these things are if I shoot one of the larger ones. they had been getting smaller because i was thinning them out.

It's nice to have my rifle back :D I got off work early enough today to do some rat shooting and it didn't take long. I got one the first one that stuck it's head out of a hole with a good clean shot through the neck. After shooting some with open sights I believe the new barrel is going to be better than the old one.
It stunk not having an air rifle around for so long. I bought a Benjamin 342 just before I got it back so I really didn't get to shoot much while my Hatsan was being repaired. I also picked up a Sheridan HB that I'm having repaired. I'll post some pictures in the vintage forum soon. I did get to shoot the Benjamin 342 some before I got my Hatsan back and it's like apples and oranges. Don't get me wrong I really like the 342 but there's nothing like shooting a magnum spring rifle.
The quality of the Hatsan 135 for the money is just hard to beat and I'm very happy with it. I'm amazed they can produce a rifle like this with a walnut stock for what it cost. Even after all I've been through I would buy it again but I would leave the trigger alone. It's set back to factory specs now and that's not bad. After the warranty runs out I'll probably look into what I can do to make this trigger better. Until then I'm going to kill some rats and enjoy plinking.

No, to be honest with you I just can't bring myself to do it. I've taken pictures with deer, big fish and other game but a bloody rat just doesn't do it for me. If you really want to see it I'll go out and take a picture in the morning if something hasn't got it. I'll even put a tape measure on it to show how big it is. All you got to do is say the word. If it's still there I'll take a picture.
It was a big one.

;D I lived in Norwalk Ct for 16 years and for 10 of those years my house had an underground stream beneath the basement. Did not have an air rifle back then and now wish I did. there was a drain hole about 3" across that was hidden by the oil tank and the metal screen rotted away. needless to say had some pretty large rats getting into the basement in the spring when the water was high. An air rifle would have saved my dobie a lot of work and would have been neater to clean up ::)

When my wife and I first got married we had some rats get into our house. We came home and they had eaten a whole loaf of bread. All that was left was some plastic and the twist tie. I bought some rat shot for my .357 and took care of a few of them and poisoned the rest. I didn't have a air rifle at the time.
The rats I have now are not getting in the basement yet and that's why I'm shooting them.
