I love plunking squirrels, lol. Im in oceanside (north county san diego) and using a .22 mrod as well. Email is brewerja@comcast.net if you ever want to meet up and get some trigger time. Iv put the AR15's away until the apocalypse since ammo is insanely expensive and so hard to find. So its airguns only now for recreation. :)

Question from a noob in San Diego as well.  Where do you go to shoot?  A friend gifted me with a beginner air rifler (Hammerli 850) but I have no idea where to take it out play.

BLM land is a great option to shoot anything youd like, from bb guns to ballistic missiles, a buddys big backyard, the woods, etc just dont go around brandishing your shooter or you might get a cisit from the swat team while your out plinking soda cans in the woods, lol.... Just be smart about it and try to think what some anti gunner might do if they saw "man in woods shooting bb's at pepsi can, gracious CALL 911!!"
Some of us are lucky, both my father in-law and my brother in-law have large pieces of property and TOOO MANY squirrels. So we let those critters breed all year and go on a killing spree every summer. Decimate the population of those suckers. Lol. Just be smart and be safe dude. Check your country ordinances, i think its 500yds from a house in most city/counties.

hey guys,..thanks for the replies. i think a north county based "squirrel meet" would be a good thing. the weathers getting nice and warm and the rodents are now fair game.
the key is finding a spot,..my usual 400 acre hunting area is on hold now as the owner is working on his montana properties.
recommendations are great. !!

im open to pm's if you want to exchange phone numbers to arrange a meet and greet time.

Near San Diego -

It's target shooting but if you like to hunt, sign up for the Hunter Division. You can hone your skills on metal squirrels out in the wild.

I'm definitely in !

It's been waaay too long since we've gotten to shoot.
A GS shoot would certainly be over the top for Cameron and I,... exactly what I've been wanting to do

but even a Fun Shoot / Target Shoot / So Cal members Meet'n'Greet could be just as much fun.
Who's got a place down there to host something like that ?

We can't let those SC shooters have all the fun !  ;)

For the guys around San Diego, McCain Valley is always a good place to shoot squirrels and whatever else is around.
Rabbit doesn't open until July 1st so squirrels are pretty much the only game in town now.
I'm in Harbison Canyon area east of El Cajon.

That would be PERFECT for me !
Please check into it and report back.

Ouch !, I just checked google maps,... that would be a 108 mile drive for me.
(I'm right next to Angels Baseball Stadium)

Yeah, I suggest it as it has a large outdoor backyard dining area somewhat secluded (the food is usually decent for breakfast as well) that would be good for a relaxed chat and perhaps with reasonable decorum some airguns to compare.  I doubt it would be practical for anyone much north of Escondido though.  For that is there a good place on the i15 say Temecula to Lake Elsinore for a meet and greet?

I think it's Garner Valley on hwy 74 not too far from 371 just down the road from Lake Hemet.

it's called fobes ranch.

it's between the garner valley fire station and lake hemet. the entrance is hard to see as it's an opening in a fence and it's along a hi-way (The Pine-to-Palms highway) that's usually being traveled at a high rate of speed...but it is marked with a BLM brown and white sign.

it's also an area where many horse activities take place.

call the idylwylld ranger station first to make sure its open to shoot as it's usually closed during the fire season.

fone # is: 951-659-2117

if anyone is interested, i have the grid co-ordinates for GPS, Email me.

So thats two of us, and perhaps we can do a monthly east county meet.

Just realized this is a three day weekend and perhaps it would be better to go another weekend?

Well I'm thinking the Indy 500 & Monaco Grand Prix take precedence on the 26th ;-) So lets make it another Sunday.

i think i know the BLM spot you speak of. we go shoot our ar15's there and shoot "reactive targets" that go boom. =) is this the same place thats littered with junk and trash everywhere? looks like people dump all their garbage on the road on the way out there? The spot we shoot at is lake elsinore area.

I'm located in North County. Sounds good, let me know. I'm off this Friday so I might go look for a spot with a friend.
