Title: Model 125, in .25 Caliber...
Post by: Catfish on April 19, 2013, 11:34:43 AM
I guess I'm from elsewhere, I expect airguns to be cheap, as in cheaper that a singleshot .22
So making the purchase a bit tough for me at about $200.
So last week I pulled the trigger on the 125, and it arrived Tuesday, so out of the box like any new kid with a toy I had to try it out.

I was surprised at the size of it, it seemed huge.
So I break open the barrel and cock it and load a pellet, JSB Exact King 25.39 grain, and give it a shot, I was expecting the lazy sound like my Benny Model 392, to my surprise it seemed quick, real quick.
We use the same ranges for the sons Gamo 1250 and this thing sounded nearly as quick from the twang to the smack the pellet made. So I had to try it again, no one can shoot just one right, and same thing twang, crack vibrate smack.
So after 15 or twenty shots it seemed to settle down some so it wasn't as violent and I was actually getting the hold down so the pellets was hitting close to a pattern.

So without a chronograph just going off the sound and feel at about 30 yards I am happy with it. After reading more reviews here, I'm starting to wonder if its going to have the same scoring and quality issues others have found on tear down.

I would love to have a wood stock, does/has another bought a blank and made it work for the Hatsan?

Just a few thoughts from a new owner...

Yeah, Rick Eutsler's review of the 125 model in .25 caliber was pretty glowing.  I imagine it's a solid gun.

I was curious about wood stocks on the Hatsan 125 too, but I was only able to find one example of a custom one.  There's one guy on YouTube from Argentina who says he built one (also looks like he has a modified barrel shroud and trigger guard):  youtube.com/watch?v=yBaCGNq2ysI

Also, as you probably saw from the other post in this subforum (sorry, "gate"), the Hatsan 95 and 135 stocks won't bolt onto the 125 (because they have different size compression chambers, and maybe for other reasons).  Still, I can't help but wonder if the 95 or 135 stock could be shoehorned onto a 125 with a little modification.  I dunno; I've never seen any of them up close.

My new 125th chronoed around 700fps after about 10 shots with the same pellet.  My gamo .177 with lube tune and spring shoots the same fps with the 10 grain heavy crosman pellets.

The more I shoot it, the more its coming around, the twang/recoil is settling down, I've got maybe 50 shots in it so far, and it is getting quieter...
Still tweaking the scope trying to get it zero'd in, part of it is me, another part is wind, and I use a Black Cherry beside the front porch as the bench and so its subject to the wind blowing around and today there is a little wind variable....

Thats interesting on the fps of the Gamo, so the 1250 claim falls a little short...

On a different note, I'd like a scope with mil-dots,
I was looking at this one.
Sniper Scope LT4-16x40AOL with Side R/G/B Ill,qta W/e,ring,flip Open Lens Cover
by SNIPER (sorry no links allowed) on Amazon...

I've found its hard to find a cheaper scope with full mil-dots lots have just a few but very few like this.
Of those that actually show the mil-dot at all.

The Gamo will shoot the lightest 5 grain alloy pellets 1200 fps.  The 7.9 grain crosman hollow point shoot at just over 900 fps.

I've used the Hawke sport hd with AO on all of my guns.  Lifetime warranty and only one bad one in 5.

Well just wanted to chime in, I have about a hundred shots now and the 125 has really smoothed out.
No more twang of the spring, and the harshness is all but gone.
It takes practice to get the hold right...

What hold does it like? I find I'm not consistent, yet, so I'll get a great group, and then a few minutes later I'll spray. Haha. I don't think it's fully broken-in, yet, either, but I'd like to hear what you've found.

My 125th shoots tighter with a firm rifle hold-tight against the shoulder.  Open palm or rested on a sand bag doesn't matter.

I'm still working out too,
But if I rest the file in the fork of the tree I normally shoot from it goes wild, but if I hold it resting with my hand on the on the forward stock it is better.
Then I think 50% of it just me being out of practice...

Haha... I'm with you, though I never had any practice which I could be out of! I keep my hand either on it or between the rest and it, and that seems to work. I'm just not consistent, yet.

I never gave much thought about _where_ to hold until this past week, when a friend let me shoot his .20 R9. I was missing, the first few shots, and he mentioned, "Hold it in the middle of the checkering in the forestock. That's where it's zeroed." I thought, "Hmmm..." Sure enough: Holding in the middle, offhand, I could hit a 1" spinner at 30 yards without missing. It blew my mind. It didn't matter if I held it tightly, or if I did it Artillery style, holding it right where it liked to be held gave you the right POI. Craziness.
