Title: .20 cal Marauder .... brass barrel conversion
Post by: Motorhead on March 28, 2013, 05:31:22 PM
Stopped by a well know local CUSTOM Paintball gun manufacturing shop inquiring if they had any "Take Off" brass barrels from the long time practice of reworking Sheridan & Benjamin into custom paintball markers.

Score !! .... picked out 2 clean as a whistle straight .20 cal Sheridan BRASS BUTTON RIFLED BARRELS  ;D

Going to clean off the residual solder where once attached to the main tube, unsolder breech & front sight so I get a Blank barrel.
Next sleeve it in a Carbon Fiber cross weave tube, bed them together with metal filled epoxy such as JB weld and then machine a breech sleeve so it fits into one of my spare Marauder breech's.
Plan on it being a single shot, so no worries about the rotary magazine.

* I have a Really Good Feeling that these old school BRASS barrels that have really nice button rifling maybe something special when used on a PCP platform.  Being brass if choke is needed ? .... should be VERY easy to swag the muzzle end slightly tighter.

** Pictures to be added / updated as it gets built up  ;)

BTW: got 19" of usable barrel to work with.

Got them unsoldered, oxide coating removed and good bore scrub with brasso cleaner.
Turns out got one of each type ... Button rifled and cut groove rifled  ;)
Thats good giving me a chance to rig both type and see how each actually shoots  :o

Ok .... got after it today and finished it up  ;)
needed to get the O.D. a tad larger, this done finding a piece of K&S brass tube barrel tightly slid into.  Then drilled vent/solder holes down tubes length, wiped barrel down with "Nokorode" solder flux and slid it together.  Propane torch heat feeding solder into the vent holes working down the entire length.
Next a few size larger tubes building up diameter for the 7/16" O.D. breech.  That done machine the barrel to fit Marauder receiver.
Next came the Carbon fiber sleeve for stiffness, it epoxied onto the barrel at this point leaving muzzle to be fit with a larger tube for factory air stripper.  Fit the stripper and added the shroud + 1 extra slightly shortened baffle ( Have 5 )
Did NOT wish to make special tooling to cut an o-ring groove for sealing the bolt probe doing a surface sealing type instead. Played with head spacing until slight o-ring compression was happening at bolt locked downward.
Next came opening up the receiver for my Fat Fingers being this a dedicated single shot conversion job.

Well this is the pictures of the conversion .... Sheridan BRASS .20 cal button rifled barrel into a Marauder.
need to get some pellets this week and see how it shoots  ;)

Looking good, Scott! ;)
You've been a very busy boy! ;D
I'd love to see that sometime, after you have it all dialed in of course.
