Title: Yet Another Crosman NPSS Gas Ram .177
Post by: gene_sc on November 14, 2010, 06:12:30 PM
Finally got around to getting all the pieces together from when I tore her down back in August. I got the new brass breech pivot washers done today. The NPSS is a remarkable US made air rifle by Crosman. Not much to do in the way of tuning because the parts are so well made and hold a good tolerance. Granted the exterior metal work in not of Euro quality but neither is the price...:) Outside of metal work these jewels should last forever.

Also I will be installing the new CDT's CBR Trigger blade and spring mod, which will allow me to take out the travel and lighten the pull wt to where I like it....

When I finish this NPSS tune she should last forever. Only weak part is the plastic thrust washers factory uses in breech pivot. BUt hat is eaily  cured...:)

Yea Gene, besides the brass washers, there wasn't really much to do with my 2 NPSS's. I deburred the usual spots and replaced the piston seals (which weren't too bad) and both of them are shooting great. I agree that these are well made airguns.

Now to get a wood sport stock on one of them and I'll be set.

Gene is there a wood thumb hole stock that will fit the Crosman .22 NPSS? I would like to do some carving on the stock. Also would like to get one for my Rem.Vantage 1200 for the same reason.

Chortdraw, the stock for the now discontinued Benjamin Legacy bolts up.
Unfortunately, you will have to track down a used Legacy to cannibalize at this point, and I don't think Crosman sold very many of them, so they appear a bit tough to locate.

Gene,
I noticed in your photo above it looks like you didn't add the delrin sleeve to the front of the gas ram. Is that because of the tight tolerance between the piston ID and the ram OD? Mine was only .015" between the two so I just put a light coat of moly on them and it seems fine.

Good looking parts. Just looking at a pic you can see the quality of the parts is better than the Chinese stuff. I'd like to get an NPSS myself one day.

Gene- Did you add brass washers in the picture of NPSS parts?  If so are they needed and if so, where can I get some?

Yes I am adding brass washers to both my NPSS's and Trail NP's.. I make up the custom washers for myself. I do not make to sell at this time.
