Title: Sumatra Power blows my mind!!!
Post by: George on March 20, 2013, 09:00:09 PM
Today the sun peaked out for a while and I put my Sumatra  2500R 22cal on the crony. I was able to get 4 shots off before I lost the sunlight. The gun wheel was set on the blue [mid power dot] line. She averaged 1143 fps for 4shots . High was 1152 and low was 1128 with an ES of 24. I was shooting JSB 18.1 gr pellets. I have not shoot a long sting yet because I don't have a tank and I did not want to do that much pumping. She was at about 2500psi when I started shooting.I knew the gun was powerful but this was more than I expected. the gun also shoots 21 gr barracudas  and 18.1 gr JSBs equally  well. What more could I expect!!! I am anxious for the weather to warm up so I can try her out on Rock Chucks.

Best pellet for the Sumatra .22 is the 28gr EunJin, you'll be blown away how accurate and powerfull they are with that combination

Sumatras are mean guns for sure

Baracuda Match pellets are excellent. They're consistent, clean, accurate & have good weight. My Marauder & Rainstorm both like the Baracuda Match 5.52's as well as the JSB 18.1's.

I'm having my Rainstorm tuned to shoot the 28.5's. They are accurate, heavy & powerful. The only thing I've had issue with is how dirty they are from the factory. But that's easily fixed by a good cleaning & lube.

Yeah Habanero, both my Sumatra .22 and my old Rainstorm shot just about every pellet well, even the 14.3gr Crosman at lower velocitys, don't really hear much about them gun being pellet picky

You definitely have to dial em down a bit to shoot the lighter lead, but the fact that you have that flexibility makes it even better.

My gun shot the 28.5 grain Eunjins ok but not as well as the barracudas and the JSBs
. Now  on the other hand that pellet does penetrate . I have a cut 2 inch solid core wood door that I staple my target to at 20yds away with concrete block tiles in the back of the cut door. The Sumatra with the 28.5 gr Eun jins blow through the 2 inch door at 20 yds. Now that is power!!!

yep not shy on power. With the wheel you can get what every you want otta them guns. I had a 22 cal 500cc sumatra that would shoot 1/2 a dime sized 10 shot group at 80 yrds.  with 15.9 jsbs flying in the 870- 890 range and get 80 shots out of it. Then I could just dial it up wiht the 32gr Eujins and pound 78 FPE and blow thru 2X4s :D very cool gun.

Post up a long range group of 5 or 6 when you get the opportunity to shoot some. 100 Y would be nice.
cheers,
Douglas

there's sooo many reports of them guns out there and all are very similar, I don't think that posting pictures really matters or makes a difference,....we know, we know what them guns really do and how absolutely awsome they are :)

Don’t mind a little show-n-tell

A 5mm, which (along with the .177 version) seems to have fallen by the wayside. In the past couple of years.  Was shooting 23ge. At 1030fps, wich is an impressive amount of energy for a 5mm.

Doen tuned it to shoot lighter weight pellets (13.5-14.3gr).

Then tried it at various ranges, trying to find the best place to leave it sighted in for a +/- 2” rise or drop in trajectory,  That worked out to about 80 yards.

Have corrected the scope cant problem:

So this 5mm is my pest bird killer.  If I do my part, then there is only a 2” drop to deal with all the way out to 80 yards.  More than enough power, enough accuracy, and fast repeat shots…it’s a deadly long range pest killer.

You have a .25 on the way, with a bigger air tube (and I hope you are tank filling that 500cc.s as pump filling is a bit labor intensive).  I’d expect a shorter shot string, but once you break the gun and and find the right pellet, should be good-to-go for some longer range fun.
