Just wondering how many of you out there have a shroud extension from Jim Gaska for your Mrods. How much was the sound reduced? Do you have actual decibel readings? Also, what caliber do you have. Thanks in advance.

I am listening...

I have on I just picked up used and installed yesterday on my .25 Mrod. This is my power modded Mrod that is also using a modified air stripper. I found the extension didn't make a difference. Your mileage may very though. I'm blasting a lot of air per shot.

Thanks for the input. Mine would be going on a stock gun.

I have one on my .25 Mrod. It is quieter, but not as quiet as my .22 Mrod. I have a db meter but haven't measured the .25 mrod. I'll try to get some measurements over the weekend, for you.

Thanks John. I would appreciate it. I have a .22 and a .25. If I could get the 25 close to the 22...I would be real happy.

OK, here are some numbers for you. :) I would not consider these absolute, given measured in my basement. ie look at it in relative terms only.
.25 cal Mrod (stock) throwing JSB Exact Kings 25.4gr @ 850fps
W/O Ext: 94db
W Ext: 90db
.22 cal Mrod (stock) throwing H&N Baracuda Match 21.3gr @ 830fps
W/O Ext: 89db
Sound meter on A scale, about 2.5' in front of muzzle, pointed toward ceiling, about 6-8" below pellet path.

Fuzz you can shot that .25 in the basement without ear protection?
Also what's the accuracy at 100 yards? Does it have knock down power at 300 feet say a squirrel?

What did you say? ;) I do have hearing protection, but keep in mind that it is A scale, not C, and it is from in front of the gun. My 1377 carbine was louder at 10 pumps, by far.
Haven't shot it past 60 yds, yet. According to chairgun, it will still have 20FPE @ 100 yds. That is more than enough to put down a squirrel. Even if the gun can make the shot, not sure I could. I do plan to hang a 6" gong @ the 100yd mark. The only critter I have shot with it, so far, was a starling at 40 yds. I big puff of feathers, and the body seemed to vaporize.

300 feet with 20 foot pounds not bad. Have you shot the .25 outside? If so how was the sound level?

Thanks John! That is a big help. Both of my guns are stock also and perform so well that i see no need to mess with them. Have you tried the extension on your 22?

I had it on there for a short while, before the .25 arrived. I can't say that it made much of a noticeable difference, to justify the additional length.
oakey,
Outside it is quieter than my basement range.

This is hearsay. I am told that if you order a puck from crosman and cut 2 of the existing pucks to uneven lengths, but the same measurement as the additional puck and assemble that drops it by 9 db at 2 feet in front.
Sorry if this did not make sense, but I plan on buying a couple of pucks and I can give you the results when I try.

FWIW: Two baffles come with the JG extension. He also sells individual baffles @ $5, which I believe is a little less than crosman price. That includes shipping to lower $48, and crosman will be a flat $4, but if you are getting other stuff, of no consequence.
I'll be interested in your results. I thought I had read where someone had done similiar and did not make much change. 9db drop is huge!

That's why I want to see. Mrod -9db would be dream. I will bet just the hammer is 70 db.
Here is a thread about mrod quiet mods. http://www.marauderairrifle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=305&hilit=mr+clean (http://www.marauderairrifle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=305&hilit=mr+clean)

Got mine last Thursday. Shot a whole can of Benji Domes at the range yesterday. I hear the ping and hammer hitting the valve more than the air/pellet exiting the barrel.
