Title: First PCP I want a .25 but which one? One with serious power...
Post by: oakey on March 03, 2013, 10:08:43 AM
Marauder?
Air Force Talon Pistol?
Any other suggestions? Because I am new to this PCP. Some one said Rainstorm upon investigation it comes in .177 an .22 and I want a bigger gun.

Thanks

I like the .25 Cal MROD.  It is quiet, affordable, extremely accurate and easy to fill.  The only cons I know of is the the weight and it is a bit old fashion looking for my taste.  I do not regret in any way buying it !!

Few more questions.

1. How important is the noise level?
2. Cost?
3. How is it going to get filled (can make this part of #2 as well).
4. Repeater or single shot?
5. Wood or plastic?

I have only admired them, but The Rainstorm II also has .25 cal and 9mm options, at least according to PA's website.

I love my Sumatra .25 carbine. Not quiet without adding something on though.

You might also consider a Hatsan AT44-10 or BT-65 if noise is not an issue.... I have an AT44-S10 Long that is currently tuned for 22 shots at 53 FPE with JSB Kings.... I was able to achieve nearly 70 FPE with EunJins, but only 14 shots.... Stock, the gun shot 25 shots at 41 FPE with the Kings.... all strings within 4% ES....

Rainstorm II comes in .25, way more powerful than a Maurader
Sumatra .25, even the super light short Carbine version is a 70-80 FPE gun

Ok I will bite...  How is the RS II "WAY MORE" powerful than a Madauder?  Also is it quiet?

My Rainstorm .22 was more powerfull than my Maurader .25

You can go up and down a bit  but this are the the powers you get from stock guns.

Maurader 45 FPE
Rainstorm 60 FPE

Maurader is more quiet, but the Rainstorm is way lighter and shorter, so you can ad a Neil Clauge LDC, and he makes them that they slip over the shroud so you get full effect but keep the gun short, very, very efficient.

Rainstorm gets more shots too, bigger air reservoir

You can probably Tune a Rainstorm .25 to shoot the 50gr Bullets at 100 FPE and keep a decent shot count

It's the same exact platform off the Rainstorm .357 so you know the capability is there if you ever want it

If you wait a few months Air Force is coming out with there new Air Force condor ss . From what I hear it is  quiet , accurate , and very powerful. It comes in .177 , .20 , .22 , .25  calibers . It also has an upgraded trigger on it . The trigger was redesigned . It has a shroud on barrel which makes it quiet . . It's a single shot air rifle . You can interchange barrels if you buy different caliber barrels for that air rifle .it is also made in the good ole USA !

The Airforce Condor SS is coming out at the end of the month. It is at the top of my list. Power and stealth.

i was told around the same price as the current air force condor around 700.00 just for the gun . then you have your add ons to buy . from what i read this new air force condor ss is an improvement of the current condor . a shrouded barrel and a much better trigger system .i am glad i waited to buy a new air force condor this past year because i would of been really upset with myself if i bought the current condor and then finding out a better condor  is available in the condor ss. this new air force condor ss is also on my list, or the rainstorm 2. i am looking at getting a .25 cal .

Title: Re: First PCP I want a .25 but which one? One with serious power...
Post by: Nomadic Pirate on March 04, 2013, 04:26:42 AM
Most powerfull

Condor and Sumatra long rifle  80-90 FPE over 100 with Bullets

than Sumatra Carbine  70-75 FPE 80+ with Bullets

Than Rainstorm  60something with pellets, we'll see what they can do with bullets as people start testing

There's a few Euro guns too in the 60-80 FPE range But I don't know much about them

accuracy in the Sumatras both Carbine and long rifle is outstanding so is for the Rainstorm

The OP never said he wanted accuracy... Just serious power.

From what I've read the Hatsan BT65 gives you useable power because it's serious power is it's accuracy.

I too am in the market for a .25cal PCP and have narrowed it down to the Hatsan with a TKO.

I should be pulling the trigger on the purchase today or tomorrow.

The PCP I purchase can't be too loud. At this point most of my shooting will be in my back yard  .25 acre. But I wouldn't pass up either the Condor or the Sumatra though I hear the Sumatra is pretty loud.

zif you are in any type of enclosure (roofed shooting lane) you should wear earplugs with the Sumatra, I would expect the same for a Condor. I took a shot at a squirrel with the Career III .25 and experienced a temporary threshold shift (TTS). Fancy words for I couldn't hear good for a while.

Deeper and longer...but close in total noise to a .22RF (which is faster/sharper/higher pitched so it sounds totally different...but I'd guess the toatl noise is about the same).  Deep sounds do seem to travel (which is why fog horns are so deep-sounding).

Do think once you get past 60 foot pounds in .25, would be better off looking for a "slug shooter" rather than a "pellet shooter".  That much power kind of deserves to toss cast .25's rahter than pushing hollow based, wasp-waisted pellets that hard.

If you really want a hot-rod, low shot count, total "hammer", go with the Condor.  Whatever it needs to have done is out in the open, the up-tune is pretty well documented in various posts (esp. on the TAG site), and they are known for their ability to make power.

They say the new Air Force condor ss with the shrouded barrel is very quiet , and very accurate with the walther barrel . You can not go wrong with selecting the new Air Force condor ss or the rainstorm 2 .they both have the power and accuracy . Price comparison they are about the same . Now it comes to these choices . One is a single shot "condor ss" , and the rainstorm 2 has a magazine for multiple shots . Also one looks like a rifle "rainstorm 2" , and the condor ss looks totally different . It's your preference ! Good luck . Either way you will get a wonderfull air rifle !

I saw someone mention cast bullets. Where can i get a cast for a .25. I thought the casts where for .257 barrels only.

There is no place on a quarter acre you could hide from a 25 Marauder. It is not the top of the power heap, but they're quite accurate. Accurate power is going to depend on how heavy your projectile is. I have serious doubts about any rifle that spits 'em out over 900 fps, though bullets seem to do better at the high speeds v. pellets. Good luck on your search.

I have the Condor in 25 cal its  I bought a shroud for it because it is way too loud with out it just bought it. The Condor is by far the best in my arsenal I have about 30 air rifles. 4 of which are pcp. the Condor is extremely accurate and has crazy power I am shooting over 1100 Fps with Eujin 43.2. So power is not an issue. I have mine set at mid power shooting crow magnums at 1050fps
with 50 yard groups inside a quarter (25Cent) JSB kings power turned down even tighter groups.

The only draw back with the CONDOR IS ITS SINGLE SHOT.

Currently my modded 25 caliber condor shoots the 71 grain 7 ring slugs around 112 fpe.  At one point, I had it shooting close to 119 fpe.  With the shroud, it's quieter than my stock 25 MRod.  But, the problem is that I have consistency issues with the rifle.  I don't believe the condor was built to shoot 100 fpe (frame flex, hammer chatter, and variances with frame diameters).

However, as soon as it is my turn, Dyotat will be custom making a new valve, 1 piece bushing, and new shroud.  A new heavier hammer spring will be added too (in addition to a 101 gram custom barrel riding hammer).  Hunter long Maddog stock should help with frame flex. LW barrel was dechoked too.

The goal is to have the rifle shooting the 71 grain slugs (accurately) at least 950 fps or just over 140 fpe (quiet and backyard friendly too). We'll see how this works.  If not, I'll retire it (and use it to shoot JSB Kings) and pick up a 9mm Korean rifle (maybe Evanix Giant? Windy City or RS II) with a shroud/LDC.   Man, this stuff is addicting...

Maybe I had a bad one, but the .25 MRod I just sent back was pretty accurate at 35 yards.  100 yards, not so much.  I have heard that they have amazing accuracy, just wasn't my experience.

I can tell you that the .22 Hatsan Sniper 125 I had was dead accurate at 100 yards.  I mean every time accurate, not bad for a springer.

with Power comes noise, mass produced PCPs that aren't shrouded come with a threaded barrel, so you can get some of the Neil Clauge magic

My Sumatras aren't that much noisier than a springer when they wear Neil Clauge :) :)

I just put 400 pellets through my 25 BT65 and for some reason it does not seem as loud? In fact I just fired it and my Hammerli Titan 177 and the titan is louder. I added the air stripper. Maybe its not as loud to me firing it but the business end is still loud? IDK

If you must have the most powerfull pcp 25 Caliber, then i vote for a hatsan bt65 with valnut stock :)
In FAC you maby got 25 shot out of a full tank but its very powerfull
