Title: Received Marauder Just my Luck
Post by: JPowell490 on March 02, 2013, 06:21:42 PM
Ugh,

Received my .25 yesterday along with all the other stuff I ordered.  Marauder box had a hole in it, shipping box did not, just the Mrod box.  Mrod has a few scraches (One long) on the air tank.  Stock is fine, very light in color.

Filled to 3000psi using Benji hand pump that I ordered with it.  They might have changed these pumps as mine seems to be of excellent build quality and is working great so far.

Took it out today to sight it in.  Shooting wildly, a foot to the right at 50 yards, then a foot low, then a foot to the left.  I am scratching my head at this point.  Shooting Benji Domes.

Get the Chrony out that I bought with it, overcast day so there were a few errors.  I think I got a good 10 shots off, Hi 798, Low 782, Average 788, Spread 15.79, SD 7.54.

Do I get all the Lemons or what?  I would love to hear your thoughts guys...........

hey-Hey!!!,
I can't think of anything good or easy to fix that would be causing such behaviour. If it is throwing pellets around in the 10-shot area you describe I'd be worried( and more than a little bit dissapointed ). Clean up the barrel and see if it helps; even at 50 yards a group of less than an inch ought to be well within its reach. If it is still misbehaving in that sweet spot you described, I'd strongly suspect the barrel. It could be something simple...you're sure the scope is OK?
cheers,
Douglas

Thought #1: It it took that kind of abuse in shipping, have to suspect the shroud is "off" as well.  Quickest test would be the be sure the gun is empty (nd then be sure AGAIN as we are going to break a basic rule of all guns-air or fire).  Take out the magazine.  Lock the bolt BACK.  Cover the breech face with white cloth (or white paper).  Let the sun shine on it from an angle off to the side.  LOOK DOWN THE BARREL.

Ideal would be to see a perfectly round blotch of white without any "crecents" or other shadows between muzzle and open breech.  Dort of like this:

At least that would support the idea that none of the shroud barrels or end caps are clipping the pellet as it travels along though the shroud.

Thought #2 They sometimes come with a coating of some aggressive anti-rust compound inside the barrel.  A good cleaning could make your scatter-shots come together.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Pak, yea the scope is a brand new Leapers 6-24 x 50.

Shipping wouldn't have put the scratches that are on the gun, I am just baffled as this is about the 3rd PA gun I have received in that condition.  I thought buying a .25 with the GM barrel would be a positive thing.......I guess not.

Dead Nuts, I wouldn't think the barrel should be THAT dirty straight off should it?

My goodness, I am so tired of this......Anyone ever ordered from AirgunDepot?

Oh Ribbon,  I forgot to mention, the shroud was off when I got it.  I straightened that though as that seems to be a common problem.

Ribbon,

I did what you suggest, looks perfect to me.  Wonder why the FPS is so low as well?

The shroud was off? Isolate the shroud...take it the heck off. Remove the stripper from the end of the barrel( or it may remove itself, and be difficult to re-locate ), and shoot a clip. In any case PA has a fine guarantee of satisfaction, and though not needed here, so does Crosman.

You bought my gun. I want one. But not damaged.

You spent a lot of coin on that work of art send it back. Why should you get a damaged gun? I just got a Browning Express 800 pistol from AGD airgun depot and loved it. After many shots I noticed the one of the screws was gnarled. I sent it right back with some hesitation. I bought a new gun. I want a new gun.

Good Luck

I would be on the phone with Pyramyd Air. Tell them the gun and box was damaged but the shipping box was not.

Tell them this is their last chance to make to send you a new, undamaged gun or they will lose a customer.

I’m not putting PA down. I have ordered four guns and scopes, pellets and tons of other stuff from them and only once had a damaged tin of pellets (that was before the new way they pack them now). PA replaced the tin for free. PA has always done right by me.

Pak, I didn't mean it was off physically, it was off center from the hex head screw adjustment.

Oakey, This makes about the 4th gun, not PCP, that I have had from PA that have had something wrong with them.  I am really not THAT kind of person lol.  *(&^, I just want a gun that works and is in new condition.  Just frustrated.  Thanks again for all the posts.

Cactus,  PA has always taken the items back no problem, but man, I am getting tired of being without something to shoot for all these weeks.  I will give them a call Monday.  "dang" it......

Powell You deserve A New Gun. You paid for a new gun. There is nothing wrong with expecting a new gun. There is nothing to judge.

Same thing happened to me last year Jason but with two rifles since I would have had to wait for a third rifle to get back in stock for 2 more weeks. I settled for the 2nd damaged gun and got them to give me a discount for it because I was tired of the ordeal. I have seen similar feedback from years ago as well so this is a long term pattern with them that needs to stop.

Alright, so update time.

This ate at me all day yesterday and I didn't sleep much (Crazy like that when I get something on my mind).

First thing I did was remove the barrel shroud.  Put the shroud back on first, then dropped the 4 plastic additions in, then the end cap.

I then adjusted the velocity screw per instructions.  The retaining nut was so loose it almost fell out.  I screwed it all the way in, gently.  It took 3 turns to bottom out.  Turned counter-clockwise 4.5 turns per manual.

As you will see below, I was shooting off my deck at 35 yards at this target.  The wind was blowing a bit, 10-15 mph, and it was COLD.....So I set up the target, etc. and then brought the gun out so it didn't get cold and the pressure did not drop.  Emptied 3 clips in a hurry as I was about to freeze, felt like about 20 degrees out.

I didn't have my bi-pod on and was sitting in a chair and resting the Marauder on my arm as it laid on the deck rail.  It was hard to keep it steady, again, very cold.

After about the first clip, a noticeable drop in power seemed to occur.  Not sure if it was the cold or the pressure.  I had the gun charged to 3000 psi., 24 shots later, it was setting on 1600 psi.

Ok, so accuracy has increased a lot from yesterday, but I still don't think it is what it should be.  However, I could have very well been moving and the wind, so it is ok.

NOW, for the thing that is bothering me.  Check these marks out on the gun, would you be ok with these?

The ONE mark that really bothers me is on the top of the air tube, the shroud is covering it.  It looks like someone put the shroud on and gouged it.  Sure wasn't me, I noticed it was soon as I unboxed it.

I had marks like that on mine too. You're not likely to have good luck with another return and replacement judging from my and other people's experiences that I've read so I'd say consider keeping that one, get a discount from PA for it, then get it cerakoted by Darrel listed in my sig(Ddgrego). No more scrapes that way with them covered, plus that coating is more resistant to scrapes.

Personally, I'd let those tiny little marks slide. You're sure to put some on the gun also, so at this point you've already got a less than perfect finish, and you'll not have to fret and worry about being the first one to mark the gun.

That's just me.

Heck my RWS 350 was a refurb, and it had two dings in the stock. Now I don't worry about getting a ding.

If its a Crosman and it is new and you just received it, it does not matter who you bought you gun from, just call Crosman and tell them your story. Its almost guaranteed they will say
NO PROBLEM, we will send you a new gun! Then tell them " I don't want to be sent another problem child" They WILL take your NEW gun out of the box and go over it BEFORE shipping it to you. In my case they even filled it with air and ( for at lease ONE night) and made sure that they were not sending me a new gun with a leak!......Might take a little while...BUT you will receive a nice quality NEW piece of equipment. You just have to keep your pants on, and be a little (more) patient, thats all !   ;D ................ ( but i'm sure you know all this already)

Oh...the barrel band by the fill plug. I missed getting your description. My first one was off a lot and the second was off a little bit. It ought to be centered but it was something I could fix myself, so I did...:) I think I have voided the warranties anyway...heh-heh-heh.
