Title: HW30s with Aperture Sight
Post by: jperodeau on November 11, 2010, 04:40:59 PM
Here are pics of my HW30s, with the Aperture Sight so kindly sent to me by Froghunter, which I then purchased, because it worked so well and looked so good (to me, at least).  For my use (short range plinking), this sight is great - not as sensitive as a scope to shaking, yet gives a very clear image of both the front sight and the target.

this is my first try at including photos in a post - please bear with me if it doesn't work ;D

The pics are kind of small, but that is an elegant setup. Very much what airgunning was all about. I am all for hotrodding, but that is a very classic look and shooting iron.

Good on you Froghunter and yeah I agree it now looks like a classic looking air gun.

John,

Very nice rig for your short range plinking and I'm also glad it works for your. I use the AGs for hunting and mind are scoped. Again glad you can use it!

Enjoy!

JP,

Nice setup. Those 30s shoot awesome. Mine is an all day plinker. I also say that an aperture is easier on the eyes for long shooting sessions.

Your 30 looks like it's wearing an R7 stock?

Thanks for the comments.   ;D

It's not an R7 stock, it's the deluxe of the HW30s - checkered forend and grip, and slightly raised cheekpiece for righties.  I'm a lefty, but the cheekpiece is not raised enough to bother me.

When I learn how to submit larger photos, I'll give a better view of everything.

I'm very impressed by the help I get from members of this forum - not only regarding airguns, but also on use of the forum.  Thanks! ;D

If that sight has a "made in China" marking on it, they are know for inconsistent manufacturing quality.  Some are good, but other have a lot of slop in the adjustments.
You would turn the knob, click, click, click and the sight would not move.
Then one more click and BANG the sight would move all the way.

The way to use it is to make the final adjustment in only one direction.
First you have to figure out in which direction the adjustment tightens the spring, that is the direction of the final adjustment, say clock wise.
So if you have to move the sight counter-clockwise, first you adjust counter-clockwise say 5 clicks past where you want to go, then make the final adjustment of the same 5 clicks clockwise.

No markings whatever on the sight - so who knows where it was made.  I'll try your tip, however, just in case.  Thanks!

Thanks, Froghunter.

I don't really care where it came from, as long as it works.  I doubt that once I have it fully sighted in the I'll be changing the settings, but the potential problem is good info.

About the only thing that doesn't come from China these days is the food at my local Chinese restaurant ;D
