Title: Marauder Shroud How-To make it look blued...
Post by: randall686 on February 26, 2013, 03:20:30 PM
Got the Gaska shroud extension.. decided to add it to the front instead of rear for ease.
The extension is very nice but doesn't match the anodized benjamin shroud so there are 2 choices for matching..
1. re-finish both IE: paint/cerakote/durakote etc..
2. Try to match the shroud to the shroud extension by polishing it.
I tried the latter with very good results.
Items needed:
1000 &1200 grit sandpaper wet-dry (use wet sanding)
I imagine the receiver and air res can be polished as they seem to have the same process applied, so I may try that at a latter time.
Here are the results.. It's looks like actual deep gun blue and better in person.

looks nice.
what did you apply to it after sanding ?
or are you saying it came out looking that good by sanding only ?

Yes, wet sanding only.. 1000 then 1200 grit. I used some fine cut rubbing compound on it and it made no difference so i sanded again in 1200 to be sure.. no diff.. looks blued for sure. You can sand with the paper in your hand like you were um... chocking a chicken?  :D

Spinning shroud in the lathe took off all the original coating.
Placing shroud over a wood dowel PAINTED it with ceramic black header paint.
After dry ( Week or more ) rubbed it down with a dry rag bringing surface to a semi gloss then applied PASTE WAX to it and once dry ( Couple hours) rubbed it down to a really nice semi gloss smooth finish.

Color is very blued looking likely because of the ceramic paint ? ... It's not a true black but sorta grey/blue  :-\

Just think.. you could have just used some sandpaper and 25 minutes .. Oh well I like to paint as well (cerakote) is my paint of choice.

That looks incredible. Looks almost purple. What made you resort to this modification. Just curious is all  ;D
