OK, I've made one or two mistakes in the past in the heat of the moment, but I figured I was past that.
Well, not so much.
I normally shoot on my basement range but I'd just put things away and I wanted to try the QB79 with those JSB Exacts again, this time off my monopod rather than a bag.
So, up on my third floor, which is very nicely finished, thank you very much, I can get a full, straight shot of 48'. That's a decent test, I'd say.
So, I stack up 7 magazines, and take a test shot. No problem! The .22 doesn't penetrate as much. It barely made it through the first magazine. Great expansion on the JSB's too!
So, I take 4 more shots off the monopod. I'm very pleased. They're all touching. That's enough, I think. I don't want to take too many shots.
Well, I it seems I took too many shots. Like an idiot, I forgot how much power is behind those pellets. Sure, the second pellet only went to the front of the second magazine, but each following pellet pounded into the back of that pellet. Also there was some ripping done by each shot.
When I moved the magazine, there was a neat, DEEP hole in the drywall about the size of my pinky. I should have known better. I really should have. This is a lot of power. I was horrified even as I was laughing at my stupidity.
Note to self and others who get antsy and impatient and just want to shoot: blow $6 on 6lb. of plumbers putty and make sure you've got a proper backstop when shooting indoors.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get some plaster in that hole and get it sanded and painted before I hear this from my wife:

Lesson learned!
You'll be fine unless you mention it to the wife...they never let you live it down!
-
At least you didn't set in the living room downstairs nd shoot thru the second floor and out the roof like a friend of my did about 35 years ago! No harm done, wall can be fixed! Just learn from the experience! ;D

Great story!! What's really funny is thinking she won't find out!!! ;D ;D ;D

Joe, the good news is that we did this place ourselves and there are lots of little projects that are always going on.

and how thick if using a 25 fpe pellet gun ?

Those are good questions. Don't ask me! I use 7 magazines and some drywall and foam insulation to stop mine!
lol! :/

LMBO!!!! When, not if, the boss finds out she'll have a wonderful reason to re paint the entire floor and maybe raise the roof for another couple of bedrooms!!! After all, you could have caused structural damage!!!

well at least you got a laugh out of it. stuff like that happens to all of us sometimes. difference is how you handle it lol :D ;D

mabe you shouldnt shoot in the house. dad said if he ever found a loaded gun in the house there would be war. i never shot in the house , not a good idea but i read where a lot of you guys do and its not smart something can and will go wrong hahahaha
-
Well, when you built it, if you break it, you can build it again. BUT, it's safer to shoot in the basement, that's for sure!
-
All I can and will say is that you're not alone in doing things like that. You're only different in that you were willing to tell your buddies who you know would give you a hard time for it!!! (LOL, but not as hard as it would be with the wife!)
Now, where did you put that putty knife?

Been there. All my holes are in the garage wall. Fiance hasn't noticed yet. Glad they didnt' make it through the plywood and out through the siding. :o

Its fine if you have a proper trap/backstop. A magazine doesn't quite cut it.

How true Chad!!! It seems, however, that more of that type of stuff happens with me more than my kids!!! Aren't I supposed to be the mature one???? Good that we can laugh at ourselves....especially because I have been fighting the maturation process tooth and nail!! Thank God my family has patience with me!!

Some of us don't have another option though. I'm in a townhouse and I don't dare even let a neighbor see any of AG's.

I may grow old but I refuse to grow up, heck I still play with BB guns.....

Every husband hears that from his wife at least once in their marriage, hence the old saying behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes. hehe

I have an archery target I bought at Wally World I use to shoot inside! It is the Square one that you can shoot either field tips on one side or broadheads on the other! I made some target pins out of a couple of worn out BuzzBait's, after cutting off the hook! And sharpening the long arm a Little! Oh Yeah! They were 1/2 oz BuzzBaits! I was just trying to save Money and had been shooting it about two year's with a Bow! Was needing a new one anyway!.....tnpaw......PS..it ain't the white Steraform one, but the other one they sale!

This thread makes me smile.
BTW, a little joint compound has made the problem nearly invisible. next a bit of sponge work and a tad of paint and I'm good to go.
Downside, I'm seeing all these other little dings and separations that need a little joint compound and painting... and now I feel obligated to deal with them... so much for loafing.

You can use that as an excuse to cover up your goof....

Plumbers putty is not good for A.Ging
You need duct seal, I made a killer heavy box, that I line 3 bricks deep for use with my 30fpe FX indy.
That does not so good mebits, at least you can laugh about it and it is easily fixed.
I remember when i was a kid, I went home to find my uncles in my room, shooting my air rifle at some targets.
The gun a russian model (unknown), they had the targets, setup on my table near my bed...in front of the window, curtains closed. Just as I entered the room, they said listen, this makes a funny sound, when it hits the target.
I went to the window, which had frosted (mak tak, for a lack of a better term) privacy plastic on it, and said thats cause the pellets are going through the window stupid. The window looked like swiss cheese.
That stick on privacy plastic, kept the window together, I was left with the repair bill too!

Doing research for a safe, silent indoor trap, I found someone's report (somewhere... don't remember exact site) about stopping PB lead with his duct-seal-lined pellet trap. I think he said it took his brother's 9mmP to finally punch through.
I put in 2" of duct seal, and until I get a rifle with some serious FPE, I'll be fine. I'm usually super-cautious with any type of projectile weapon, but I feel totally fine shooting in the garage.
The OP's story is a great reminder to keep checking our gear and assuring safety (and it's funny, too; if my wife found out I'd done something like this, my HD-list would be a mile long!).

I remember reading that, too, but I'm not ready to try it myself.
One layer of duct seal is plenty, probably could slice them in half, but I only needed 9 bricks to fill my trap. All my pellet shooting is indoors.

And deal with them you will, becuase when she notices all those different spots you can explain it without telling her about the hole you shot in the wall...

I'm new to this, so I filled a cardboard box that my Kuerig coffe maker came in with old bed sheets and haven't had one go thru yet. It is probably about 16x16x16 and had a handle on top which is great for carrying. Probably have 500 pellets and although cardboard is worn out it still works. Emptied a cup full of pellets out of it a while back and probably needs again. I staple a target on all 4 sides and just turn it and until they are all shot, then replace all 4 at once. I'm shooting nitro venom .177 over 1000fps.
