Title: My xs79(uk) home tuned and modified.
Post by: TonySBT on February 09, 2013, 04:06:30 AM
I bought this as a standard xs/qb 79,

Step 1- full strip down de-burr and polish, reasemble with new seels and grease and replace stock screws in tank block and barrel grub screw for hex drive height tensile bolts.
Step 2- fit and shim guerrilla air hpa tank regulated at 850psi (to stay within uk law)
Step 3- I modified an old BSA air sporter stock to suit my grip style, cut, filed and sanded then finished it in beeswax.
Step 4- fit the scope (rws) can't remember full details because of step 6.
Step 5- fit whisper siliencer with 1/2 unf adaptor.
Step 6- camo tape it up, and fit my homemade sling (58 pattern army webbing).
Step 7- shoot it!

It shoots excellent with 1/2inch groups out to 35yard using accu pell .22 cal.
The picture in my profile is of this rifle, having trouble getting them in the thread from my iPhone,

Comments welcome,

Cheers tony

Great work Tony. I like the bee's wax colouring on your stock.

That's great work, Tony.  I especially like that stock.  I'm sure you had to make modifications, but it looks like it was just made for it.  The 79 is truly a "jewel in hiding" for those willing to invest a little time to make them shine!  Great job!

Yea a bit of a cut and shut really on the stock it comes off an under lever rifle so the gap for the action goes right through the stock, so i e-poxy in a piece of hardwood and shaped it to the qb action measured out the bolt holes and hey presto!

It's a cracking gun for the money, only £85 uk pound like you said a diamond in the rough!

Cheers

Rifle is yet to be chrony'd and actual fpe worked out, the standard power on co2 is about 8-9fpe at 900psi, I have changed the seels to make a slight power increase so its probably around the 12fpe or just under hopefully haha!

Plenty of bits available for after market mods but I wish we had an Archers in UK, Gmac comes close but those side lever breeches look the bees knees!

Thanks for the comments John much appreciated,

Cheers
