Title: Benjamin Titan
Post by: William273 on February 06, 2013, 10:58:17 AM

Just wanted to get and idea of how well the Benjamin Titan would do for benchrest target shooting at say 50-60 feet and would a ten meter NRA target be to small to use? It's in my price range and would like something that would shoot at ten meters on out to 50 or 60 feet if possible. Thanks,

William

I like them, but out of the box they have horrible triggers and lousy scope.  They are a good plinker/hunter but only so so target rifle.

You don't mention caliber or if you want to shoot Iron sights.  For that range I would recommend a flying dragon (Mike Mellik) B12, has a decent trigger usually good sights and runs under $85.  My favourite for that range would be a HW30s/Beeman R7 its over 3x in cost new but it is a step up in build and trigger.

I'm talking about the .177s...sorry should have mentioned that. I'd like to use a scope...I like seeing the target. ;D The gun I have won't take a scope so might be looking for a new one and may have to wait til I get more money and get a good gun that will get to 60 feet with no problem. Thanks Huklbery.

I doubly recommend the B12 then, its very affordable and you can buy a decent budget AO scope inside the cost of a Titan.  If you call Mike he will work with you to get what you want.  Thats important as many off the shelf break barrel rifles will not give you a good group unless you get lucky.

Back to your original question. Yes this gun will hit that target at that range, if you do your part. I can consistently hit a paintball at 20 yards with mine.

That said they do tend to need a little TLC to really shine - new trigger, pivot washers, crown work, tune with new piston seal.

You can pick them up refurbed fairly cheaply and parts from Crosman are plentiful and nicely priced. They are smooth to cock and the fact you don't have spring twang is a major  plus for me.

On the other hand a gun tuned from Mike would be very hard to beat especially if your not into tinker/tuning yourself.

William, welcome to GTA.  I am right up the road from you in Summerville, good luck with the Titan...

I have 7500 shots thru my Titan and still shoots accurately at those ranges.
I shoot my homemade 1" fender washer spinners with the stock scope.
I also polished trigger contact points and was a big difference.
