Hello!
I need a little help...no make that a lot of help. I have a few questions but will post them one at a time so I don't bog things down...expect to see a few more posts. ;)
I have the Daisy Winchester CO2 M14 and while it seems to shoot pretty well at 10 meters I wanted to go further out than that say like 60-75 feet. It will hit cans at those distances but doesn't have the accuracy it has at 30 feet. I thought shooting at 30 feet was a little to easy...like shooting fish in a barrel until I picked up some NRA 10 Meter paper targets...now things are getting interesting.
My problem is I can see the black bullseye but not the rings inside of it. When I pick up my binoculars it looks great...can see the rings nicely. The other problem is the gun will not take a scope. I think I read they don't use scopes at ten meters and that makes me wonder how they shoot? Do they see the rings or do they just shoot at the black bullseye and hope for the best.
I was shooting today and would take a shot...look through my binoculars to see where the pellet hit then make an elevation and or windage adjustment and shoot again then have another look...is that how it's done?
I'm also thinking about getting another gun that has a scope...seems if you can see the rings it kind of changes the whole outlook. Any advice on any of this? More questions to come but first things first and THANKS!

I got a spotting 20-60x scope with a little tripod off craigslist for $40. It is better than the ones at Big 5 for about the same price. At the time I did find some NcStar ones on ebay for about $55 shipped.
I have the same troubles with black bulls eyes and I shoot with a scope. I recently shot a small bore rifle match and couldn't tell where my shots were going unless I completely missed the large black target area.

Welcome guys to the 10 Meter club. After a while, with a good gun, you'll think you missed the target completely. Get one of those old Diopters, all you can see is the black area.
Now go and check the target closely. A big wad of lead, right in the middle.
-
Normal folks can only see the black bull.
10m AR is shot with diopter sights (apertures front and rear).
In actual use, you center the black bull in the front aperture, so you have no need to see the rings.
Someone else will have to tell you how they aim when shooting "service rifle" matches, as the service rifles have a post front sight. Either dead-on, or 6-oclock.
-
I did a little research but didn't see a lot on the Diopter sights but they sound interesting. I know they won't go on my current gun but would they fit on most air rifles and would I need front and rear or just the rear sight? Can iron sights be used as well also for ten meter or just Diopter?
I'm on a budget but I can afford the Benjamin Titan or the Gamo Whisper...I like how they look and they will take a scope. How far out do you think you could go with those...more than 10 meters and shoot accurately? I maybe should post this question in the Benjamin Gamo section . :-X
Thanks for the replies guys.

The 10M target is challenging. Sight in your open sights using the 6 o'clock hold for the distance you are shooting.
Even if you use a scope or red dot, the 10M target is still a bugger with all that black. I find if I color in the bull with white paint or cut it out completely, I shoot those targets more accurately. It proves the old saying of "aim small, miss small".

Hey brother, before I went to a Gamo or Benjamin I would go with an RWS 34. I made the mistakes. I then bought a TX200MK3 which is an excellent rifle, but for the budget minded go with an RWS (I did after the TX and have not looked back). I love my TX and it is my go to rifle. The RWS is not far behind considering the cost.

A diopter rear sight is a peep sight with easy adjustment capability.
So if you can't put on a rear diopter, you can simply put a William peep sight on your rifle.
You can use a notch rear sight, if that is all you have. But realize that it gives up a lot in accuracy, because it is not as precise an aiming device as the diopter sight with its longer sight radius.
For the front, for 10m AR, an aperture sight is desired.
But you can use the post front sight, like in "service rifle."
Hold for 6-oclock or if you can't, then dead on (top of post in the middle of the black)
What I run into trouble with are the light pipe front sights like tru-glow. The light pipe is too big for target shooting. The best you can do with that is to hold the front sight / light pipe at the 6-oclock position.
If you will be shooting primarily 10m target, a very good economical/starter rifle is the Daisy 953. The 953 with a trigger tune (a must), will be more accurate at 10m than 95% of the spring rifles out there. This is because the 953 is a SSP, and it has ZERO recoil/vibration when you fire it, making it much easier to shoot accurately. IMHO, the only spring rifles that can compete with the 953 are the spring target rifles or semi-target rifles.
The 953 is my favorite casual target rifle. I have mine setup with full diopter sights (front and rear), and a tuned trigger (easy to do).
Pyramid has a package that includes diopter sights with a 953 for a reasonable price.

Which one is that? Can you post a link, please? (this one? https://www.pyramydair.com/product/daisy-powerline-953-targetpro-target-sights?m=2610 (https://www.pyramydair.com/product/daisy-powerline-953-targetpro-target-sights?m=2610)?)

Thanks AC12, Philidor and everyone for the detailed info...helps a lot!

No need to color in the black bull with white. Try this:

or if you shoot 22 pellets, this:

William,
First off, Welcome to the GTA !
as you've already seen, there are some absolutely FANTASTIC Folks here who are always willing to help.
here's another suggestion for you that I use on the 10 meter targets.
At Wallyworld, in the kids school supplies/stationary aisle, you can pick up flouresent colored sticky dots, that are the size of a dime/penny. They cost $1 for something like 315 of them.
I use them at 50ish yards and a 4-16X40 scope.
(I need all the help I can get. I'm 52 and been wearing "Bottle Bottom Bi-focals" for 30 years !) LOL !
Here's what they look like on the 10 meter targets...
BTW,... at 50 yds, I'm lucky if I can even see the whole dang target !
(I even want to go up to a 24 power scope !)
I'll see if I still have the package they come in, and take a pic for you.
Hope this helps,
Happy Shootin' !

@sperho
Yes, that is the one.
But the rear sight in that kit is a cheap copy of the Gamo sight. I do not know how good it is compared to the genuine Gamo sight. It might be a decent copy, it might be a lousey copy.
