Title: hw50
Post by: johnsvel on January 11, 2013, 07:41:00 PM
Just  purchased the above (hw50) and have put  about 100 pellets through it . Quite harsh . I hav a hw35 I've had since '73 and it is sweet ! Does anyone know if setting the barrel 'tension' rule is the same for both ? Meaning that the tension , when cocked , will allow the barrel to stay in place when released anywhere in the arc of it .My terminology is probably confusing but I can't think of anf other way to describe the action . Thanks much ,John

Just did the same thing though my first rifle was a HW30s, out of the box it was great and at 7ft lbs real mild to shoot.  Several users on here helped me immensely to get the 50 sorted out, Petey was quick to suggest the Vortek kit with the softer 26 coil spring.  After installing that it smoothed right out and though still a high performance to weight ratio in comparison the the HW30 it made it an excellent shooting 12ftlb gun (.177).

The HW30 is great out of the box, the HW50 isn't refined and isn't pleasant until you tune it IMHO.  The HW95 is the next step up from the 50 in size and power I believe and from what I gather less harsh out of the box.  I can say the 50 is great after you get it sorted.

Sounds Right.. I set mine about the same or just a hair loose.
To relieve the harsh shot cycle, I would recommend a Vortek Spring kit cut to 26 coils.. This will  be equal to stock performance as opposed to the hop up kit. It will kill that harsh snap at the end of the cycle. You can order it with or with out the seal...Stock factory seals work well and hold up fine. That's the setup I run in my 50s and R9 and 30s.
JSB 8.44 @ 765 Av a tick under 12 pounds and a solid performer.

Most importantly..............
                                        Welcome To The GTA!

Happy Shootin!
