Title: Uncocking Ruger Air Hawk
Post by: Rayc384 on January 05, 2013, 06:16:23 PM
New to all this, I have cocked the new Ruger for cleaning barrel and lubing.  How do I safely uncock the air rifle? I know not to dry fire it. I can only get better through experience I fear.

Put a pellet in it and shoot.

to uncock the rifle..with barrel broken and at the end of the cocking stroke and held firmly, push safety in and pull trigger barrel will then release, if you let go of the barrel or it gets away from you then you have a major problem so don't let it get away..

Got 'er done.  Fired two cleaning pellets through it.  Thanks Mike, I will definitely keep your directions in my mind.

Ugh. Don't use cleaning pellets. Not good for the gun. Use a pull through and patches.

Both of the above posts are good advice. The felt cleaning pellets just don't provide quite enough resistance to prevent piston slam. Even though your gun "can" be uncocked, its just plain easier and safer to just load it and shoot it.
