Title: Preparing to tune a HW35E .22, opinions?
Post by: Canuck Bob on December 25, 2012, 03:22:33 PM
I have narrowed it down to a V-Mach, Vortek, or Maccari DIY kit.

Research suggests the Vortek raises power substantially.  Many folks suggest the design of a HW 35 limits its power due to the big piston and short stroke.

I am PAL compliant in Canada so I have no legal restrictions to deal with.  My desire is for a quiet smooth shooter with power low on the list.

The Vortek design seems to suggest that metal on metal contact is eliminated or reduced.  The liner design seems real clever.

The V-Mach is very well regarded but does it require buttoning?

The Maccari kit advertises the design is tuned for smooth function and no attempt to jack up the power to suit the HW35.

As a cold country shooter do the heavy lubes tend to slow things up in the winter?

well you could have VT build you a kit to keep you in your power requirements to keep you legal and you'd still have a nice kitted power plant! VT kits don't require much on the lube end to keep them quiet and functioning well even in colder weather, that said all springer's are subject to power loss in cold conditions! just my 2ct :P

Thanks Mark,  I am not required to meet any restrictions.  If the Vortek gives real good manners and accuracy the added power would be a bonus.

I'd say then if power isn't an issue I'd get the V-Mach kit from Steve Pope! he builds some nice stuff! and I think you can get V-Mach kits from Specialty Shooting Sports, JMO :P

Fate intervened, I found a kit from a fellow countryman's spares drawer.  We had discussed it months ago and I was happy to find it still available.

It is a Maccari with two ARH seals and springs included for a sensible price.

The ARH site says it is designed to be an extremely well mannered springer at designed power, perfect!
