Title: Beeman R7
Post by: Rico14 on December 24, 2012, 03:50:14 PM
I sent my R7 .20 to Jim at Precision Airguns for a tune and Vortek installation. When I sent it to him, it was shooting 467, 475, 470, 475, 473 for around 6.5 fpe. When I got it back, it's shooting 507, 504, 505,508,504 for around 7.8 fpe. The shot cycle is short and crisp. I had a chance to shoot it this morning. I shot 50-60 pellets then shot these groups. I'm very happy with the results and I'm hoping the groups will shrink once I get to shoot the R7 more and everything breaks in. I shot the groups with 2 pellets. The black dot was shot with Beeman FTS  11.4 and the green dot was shot with JSB 13.5. Both groups were 10 shots at 20 yards.

It looks like that Vortek kit and tune improved your R7's fps considerably, Rico.  Its already showing great accuracy too by the looks of those two targets.  Its especially impressive that you did 10-shot groups.  That's what really shows the consistency of the rifle, and shooter I'm sure.  ;D

What scope are you using?  If that's with open sights, you've just blown my mind, as I'd have a hard time doing that with a scope on my best day!  :o

I have an R7 in .177 I put a Vortek kit into around a month ago.  I will get it chronyed next week, but I expect to see a similar boost to about that same power level.  I replaced a sick factory spring and seal and was getting 450 fps with CPHPS before, though now from pellet testing, I'm seeing it likes the JSB Exacts 8.4 grain and JSB RS 7.3 grain pellets about equally.

Great gun and groups. Hard to beat the LW barrel!

Mark, thanks for the kind words. If I could only shoot like that with open sights. The scope is a Hawke Sport HD
3-9x40 AO Mildot IR. Yes, the Votek kit gave a nice boost in fps. I'm sure you're going to be happy with your .177. The R7 is just a joy to shoot. Light, easy to cock and accurate.

Didn't know Weihrauch used LW barrels.

I think that's a typo--HW?  Weihrauch makes their own barrels.

Oops! Typo - HW barrel. I have one on my Mac1 LD and it is also super accurate.

Very cool groups. You can sit back and pick off bugs now.
