I have a 20 caliber R9 that has been tuned by our own Shadow. I don't know what spring or internals he used, but it's as smooth a shooter as you'd hope to have. I'm wondering what weight pellets y'all shoot in your R9s. Just lookin' over the PA site, there's not too great a selection of 20 caliber ammo offered...they run from 9.8 to one in 23.7 while most fall between 13 to 14 grain. I realize EVERY rifle reacts differently to a particular weight so what works well in yours won't necessarily do the same in mine. I've already done the "sampler" route but found none that really stood out. SO...what brand and weight(s) grouped best in your R9? This isn't meant to be a scientific poll, I'm just curious.

i broke my R-9 in on super bears they shot the best up front as the gun broke in the pellets it liked seemed to change the best i found was FTS's ... 11.42 grain i tried a lot of them i have owned the R-9's in ,177 and .22 cal. the .20 outshines them all ...keep in mind i use it for squirrel hunting though and don't punch paper much anymore ...the pred's never shot well the JSB'S shot ok but once i found the FTS's shot well i just bought a bunch and stuck with them ...

Hey Tin...I doubt that I've fired mine enough to break it in yet. Any idea how many rounds you put through yours before it was broken in? Is your 9 stock or has it been tuned? Out of the box, mine had so much spring twang that I hated to shoot it. Some members here told me that was a normal thing for R9s and a tune was for the best. I sent mine to Shadow and he cured it.
After reading your answer, I checked my sampler pack and found some Super Bears. From the looks of that slot, it doesn't look as though I tried 'em at all. I can't find 'em listed in my shooting book either. I guess I overlooked those. However, I DO have an unopened tin of FTS Double Gold that I haven't tried, so that's a start.
Thanks for your info....

My R9 .20 has a Vortek kit installed and I'm shooting the Beeman FTS 11.4 also. They give me one ragged hole with 5 shots at 25 yards.

mine is stock had a lot of buz but it calmed down some a tune would help the R-9 a lot i think i shot like 200 pellets a day out of it for like 4 or 5 days before i ever scoped it or shot for groups i just sat out in the back yard and shot pellet after pellet into a dirt bank.... the R-9's love to be shot the more you shoot them the better they get also .. i don't know what a break in period would be on a tunned gun i only have 1 tunned gun and it is aB26 tunned by MM and there was no break in it was butter right out of the box and it's way smoother than my R-9 matter of fact my R-9 is draw'n dust in the gun safe at my brothers ....i grab the B-26 for just about everything any more ....

Every R-9, HW77 or HW97 MKIII in .20 loves FTS/FTT H&N pellets. I have Generic FTT 500 paks and Beeman Labeled FTS 200 paks both in stock. The power output of these guns makes them ideal for this pellet weight.
