Title: think my next purchase will be a crossman 2240
Post by: howie1968 on December 22, 2012, 04:00:59 PM
looked at some crosman 2240 online today and think it will be my next airgun, a few questions who can do the trigger work on this site? and most recomend getting the steel breech kit.  is the steel breach kid needed if you paln on just using the factory sights?

Factory sights, nope, wont need the steel... BUT I still recommend it! Especially since Crosman finally brought back the LPA mim rear sight! And you'll have the option to scope it down the road. But, there's 1000 members better suited to help ya with the details on here! I built mine from the Crosman Custom Shop, been looking at getting another configuration soon...

I originally wanted it to be small and compact as possible to take it with me kayaking. But, they had the LPA sight as "unavailable" so I went without stock sights and added a nice Sig Sauer red-dot. Ended up taking the shoulder stock off the 1322 and swapping it to the 2240. However, now that the LPA sight is back in rotation, I'll snag one and take my 2240 back into its original plan.

The short barrel with the shoulder stock looks wierd, I'd want to get the longer barrel on my next model to turn it into more of a carbine. (co2 gets a lil boost to FPS on the longer barrel too I read)

The breech kit is pretty easy to install and the new sight will improve things a lot.  With the old sight, adjustment is not that easy but the LPA Mim sight is much easier/better on adjustment.  And, of course, the steel breech gives you other sight options if you decide down the road that you want a scope or red dot.  The additional stability of the barrel will also help accuracy.

If you go with the steel breech, be aware that the factory rear sight will no longer be usable, the dovetail in the steel breech is for the separately purchased LPA MIM sight.

You should also read up on dealing with that pesky, easily stripped breech screw.

Good luck.

You will love that gun. There are so many options for that gun it's crazy. I've really got into them for a while now. You don't need the steel breech but you will probably want it later on and they are very easy to install. You can learn alot and get very creative with these guns. Easy to work on and many parts are interchangable.

Here is my 2240

Big Ern that is a beautiful gun.

Oh, you're gonna have some fun !! Once you take it apart a few times it will be second nature.

Here's mine.  It's got a Mellon air/Crosman recrowned 12" barrel, a BNM repeater breech, 6.5" TKO muzzle brake, heavier hammer spring and power adjuster, a PowerMax-HiPAC hpa system, and a Williams rear sight and fiber optic front sight.

16 FPE with minimal valve mods and standard transfer port.  Have fun modding!
