I installed the Vortek 18 fpe tune kit and it is as close to stock while offering no twang you can get.  I was very pleased with the kit for sure.

Tom at VT makes good stuff! if are able to make your own guides and top hat {etc} I think you'll really like his springs JMO, but getting 18ftlbs maybe questionable due to other variables like seal fit and proper sealing! :P

Mark is right...............here is the exact wording by Vortek for the HW97 kit, "Drop-in tuning kit 15ft/lb+(17cal), 17-18ft/lbs larger caliber velocity output.
Easy install DIY."

Did I get 17/18 ft/lbs..................no.  With Beeman FTS 14.72 Copper Plated pellets I avg. 16.43 ft./lbs.

I am more than happy with those results and fact the twang is gone and the gun buttery smooth.

I have two 2 G kits installed in a 97 and a 77 in 20 cal.  Mine are set up for 15 and 16 FPE.  They shoot smoothly no twist and a thunk.   It was shimmed up to as high at 17 FPE but shoots much better at 15-16 FPE.  better a 15 FPE hit than a 18 FPE miss ;D

I would say get at least his 2G kit at $59 its not worth your time to make a tophat and guide.  Plus the kit comes with a new seal that will be better than the factory one.  After you deduct the cost of a seal the kit is a steal...unless of course ya have the guide materials and enjoy the making of them

I bought the vortek spring for my HW50 and made my own guides huge difference very smooth no twang.  I went ahead and ordered the spring for the 97.  The 97 im getting is only a .177 cal I was just hoping to bring it up to around the R1s power.
