I took my Ruger Black Hawk apart to prep it for the Vortek Tune Kit I told my brother I wanted for X-Mass. I was planning to hone the compression tube and install a second trigger screw to the trigger. Looks like I need to do two screws and remove the wood screw it came with. The old piston seal looks like it has been hitting something resembling a smooth edged bottle cap at the bottom of the compression tube. The port for the air to move through to the breach travels at about 30 degrees from the center of the compression tube up to where it mates with the breach in the barrel.
I have been really searching posts and videos to get educated for the tune. I have not come across anything resembling what I found in this rifle. What is this thing at the bottom of the compression tube? I am afraid that a new seal will be beaten up by it. How do I hone it? Should I just put it back together and give it away. I’d not want to ask anyone to pay money for it. Can I somehow pop that plug looking thing out and hone it all the way down? That is my main concern. What does it do and why have I not heard of it before? See attached Photos.

I see your picture of the tube but I can't see it good enough to tell you if theirs anything in there that's causing the damage to the seal! if your not seeing anything unusual in there its probably just a deformed seal from the factory? Did you notice anything sounding odd when you were firing the gun before you disassembled it? have you ever chronyed it? to see if your velocity's were good? :P

I have a couple of ideas. First off however, I need a side view of the seal and piston. The Seal Damage looks interesting but cannot tell for sure without side view. I can however, tell you that things could be a LOT worse. See Pictures below.

you lucky that gun still shoots! is their and damage to the tube as a result of those findings? :P

Click the pictures and they will enlarge. There is a metal plug at the bottom of the compression chamber. it has a raised area all around the circumference of it that looks to have made contact with the piston seal. The center area of this plug is raised as a dome and has a hole in it to allow air to go into the port. I also makes for a lot of dead space. I think any new seal will bang into it. I have not seen or heard of such a thing before

Tube was strangely enough still good!!!! Crosshatched it and installed NP and Gas ram though. Wasn't getting the power I wanted out of it. I am going to install in in another tube with a new spring. Should do the trick just fine!
As for the piece in the bottom of chamber, have you tried a pipe cleaner bent just enough to lift it? If that does not loosen it up try some 14 GA copper wire and attempt to push it up as high as possible then remove from chamber. Keep me updated as I have more ideas, but let us try the easy ones first!!! You may also be able to tape a dental pick to a 1/4" dowel or even a couple cleaning rods and get it out that way.

I guess it wasn't a nail-gun after all. I have shot white tip matched out of a Crossman 2100 before. Dropping a nail down the tube that small enough to pass the transfer port oops! Looks like more than one. Probably thought they shot wild and tried others when they were staying in the compression chamber.

exactly what I thought as well!!!!!!
