Title: Rat and rabbit shooting on Newbottle pig farm
Post by: zini on October 30, 2010, 01:03:16 PM
Hi lads,

Just a quick post with a video of just some of what I’ve been up to a few months ago  .

I used my springers for 99% of the hunting session and done quite well I think, but twice I have cracked and taken my little girl out for a shooting (my r10).

Some of the video is quite dark due to being late at night and ratting  but you can make out what’s going on easy enough.

Special thanks to Mark Vinning (Manager Newbottle Pig Farm) and a good mate  .

We ended up shooting 25 rats, retrieving 14 with the rest dying quickly behind walls and farm machinery  .

I only got 5 of the 25 with my r10 from a static location, 3 on video and 2 off camera with Mark and his NV rifle scope and HW97K hammering the rest in total darkness without the rats knowing what happened to them (Its a brilliant scope).

The rabbits were shot at my mates permission Davyt63. The place was crawling with bunnies and it was a really goof day.

Awesome video and shooting!  You have some great camera equipment.  We 've been waiting for someone like you with the patience and expertise to film your hunts.  It's like we are there with you.  Nice job!!

Are the PCP guns and Springers you use 12fpe, or are they FAC rated?

Good hunting and excellent shooting Si. Mark's pig farm is a target rich location for sure. You're lucky to have access to it. Nice looking shooting partner too.  ;D
Thanks for sharing.
Happy Shooting!!!!

Thanks for that harry buddy, ill try and get some more new footage posted soon.

Ive got some more rat shooting to do and then some rabbits to control for a couple of my friends.

Yes Rocker i eat the rabbits and wood pigeons, but your freezer can only take so much and i shoot lots so i give the meat to friends and old people for free.

I also have a pal that has a bird of prey so i give some to him when im in the UK.

Cheers Ezman, yep laura is a real good shot and beat me in the last Hunter Field target (HFT) competition we entered together mate.

You cant go wrong with a cute girl that enjoys the same sport as you and looks after you like laura looks after me.

Looking forward to the new footage or any ol' footage :)

It is rare to have a girlfriend that enjoys shooting with you.  My wife tried it a few times and she was really good (more patient than me, and taking her time) shooting the big 350 .22 on open sights, but after a while she lost interest, and she was never big on shooting critters.  We used to shoot a lot years ago and she even went through the hunter safety course and got her hunting license but never really went hunting..  I am forced to keep my own refrigerator for the squirrels, and have to sneak them into the kitchen to cook them when she is not around, but that 's the norm here with most of us I think :(  They just don't want us shooting "cute" little fury critters, or in my case, she doesn't want to know what I 'm doing or shooting, as long as I don't it in front of her, or don't tell her what I 've shot or brag about it :D  The only time she approved was when a red fox had moved into our property and was barking outside our window waking us up every night at 2am, and when she attacked the neighbor's cat and heard her hair raising scream (treed the small cat) at 2:30am, she looked at me like "you know what to do.." hehehe :)  Good thing my wife hates to be robbed of her beauty sleep ;D

That's a great little story buddy, made me laugh. Luckily for me Laura doesn't mind blood and gore and is a wonderful partner. I love her bits and wouldn't swap her for anything. I do understand though pal as my first wife wasn't into me killing bunnies etc.

Thanks Wick.

Yes rat shooting is really good mate and can be really fast action, hence magizine fed bolt action rifles being the way ahead.

I have got alot of rat shooting planned over the Christmas period so i will be posting more footage then.
