Title: Join screw in Black and Air Hawks - different??
Post by: FerrumB5 on November 29, 2012, 05:33:44 PM
Hi All,

I'm looking at the R. Airhawk exploded view and see that position 15 is the join screw with position 17 join nut. In my RBH there are screws on both sides?? One of them seems to be loose a bit - I plan to loctite it tonight. So, is that possible that I have two screws? AirHawk view is attached

There is only one screw and nut. The nut sometimes has slots in it that makes it appear to be a screw. I wouldn't recommend using loktite on this assembly. If you think you REALLY HAVE TO tighten this screw, here is the general rule:

With the barrel disengaged from the cocking arm so that it can swing freely on it's own and the compression chamber pointed straight up and the barrel unlocked and at a 90 degree angle (straight out), Do NOT tighten this screw enough to keep the barrel from slowly dropping under it's own weight. Any tighter and you will have undue squeeze pressure on the  washers and they will wear out early and possibly damage the recesses where they fit into the barrel. Any looser and you will get barrel looseness that allows it to swing side to side and you will lose horizontal accuracy.

If the screw and nut keep loosening you can cure this by cleaning the threads well and then putting one drop of fingernail polish on them and tightening. the polish is soft enough to allow retightening but firm enough to keep them from loosening in most cases.
