Title: TS-45 scope solution
Post by: JJ on November 21, 2012, 09:51:56 AM
I doubt I am the first one to do this,  But I haven't found a better way to put a scope on a TS-45. ( I haven't tried the dedicated mount that came from the factory, but to the best of my knowledge, it mounted to the rear sight..
I used a dremel tool and cutting wheel to chop the top of my rear sight off, and using files to work the edges into a dovetail (ish) platform. I filled the top with JB-weld to keep from over tightening the scope rings and bending in the sides.  My rear sight was not perfectly paralel to the barrel, so I had do do a little extra file work to straiten her out a bit. I also used a cheap pair of 3/8" scope rings that allowed for a little more that 3/8", so I didn't have to remove more that what I had to adjust. This seems to work pretty well so far.
If someone had the patience and/or the tooling, I am sure a much nicer version of this could be accomplished.

I suppose that will work for a while but, and please don't take this as criticism of your work because it's not, it won't last.  So far on the nine I've dealt with the rear sight mount was so feebly sweated onto the tube that I barely had to give it a twist by hand to break it off.  They're all inconsistent, though, so maybe you got one that is more stable.

I ended up having to weld rails onto the ones I wanted scoped.

I've got a friend here who will setup a proper rail on these guns for $40 a pop.  I'm about to have him do three of mine.

None taken! Love to hear other peoples thoughts. My approach is always" what I can with what I got". I have simple tools and plenty of elbow grease.  I recycle parts form anything I can,  Can you find the old Mag lite part on my TS-45?
Most of the fun is working on them, for me!

I did notice the mag lite lol.  I might borrow the idea with an air stripper type brake...these things have a nasty crack to them

I'm building up another one today and removed the rear site.  This is why I suggest you start looking into a better solution.

All of mine have been welded the same way.  Three little tacks.  They don't even fully penetrate the tube.
