Title: 2 more Pigeons and bunch of HOSP's!
Post by: BirdDawg on November 18, 2012, 08:46:15 AM
I went back to where we shot our last 7 pigeons.  I only got two yesterday morning, but they were good shots.  Both were head and neck shots.  Both were 35-40 yard shots.  I used my MROD .25 with Benjamin domed pellets.  I don't think I will have anymore big pigeon hunts here.  Their numbers are dwindling down.  I would say there are only about 8 to 10 still roosting there.  We have severely reduced their numbers.

I packed up and headed to my latest permission.  The last time I was there I seen several pigeons, but nothing last night.  There were a lot of Sparrows though.  I couldn't recover all of them because several ended up on the roof and some fell into some junk.  Not worth hurting my self stepping into all that &^^&.  The length of the barn is 30 yards but where I was sitting it was around 35.  At the end of the barn was a wall not cut to the shape of the building.  This was great because it gave the birds a place to land and look at me.  Some woud land between the ridges of the roof and was a little more difficult, but made for some cool head shots!  The building pictures haven't finished uploading.  I will post them when I get a chance.  I'm planning on heading out there again today, but much earlier.  I only got to shoot for about an hour.  This time change really not worthy balls!

Thanks!  Well, I uploaded one of the barn pictures.  If you can see that little black dot at the end on top of the wall.  That's a female HOSP.  She was on top and fell to the little ledge.  That ledge is about 12 to 15 feet tall.  No recovering her.  You can kind of tell by the ridges on the roof that when they land between them you can only see their heads and necks.  You have to have a very accurate rifle to hit those small targets.  I really love my MROD.  I'm also using a HAWKE 6x24x50 scope.  I keep it at 24 power all the time.

Thanks!  I really love the .25!  Who would have ever thought that pesting could be so much fun.  I'm just happy my kid enjoys it too.  Shooting pigeons is all he cares to do now.  I had to talk him into going to do some paintball yesterday because there just weren't any flyers at a couple of the properties yesterday morning.  He shot one HOSP and that was it.  Next weekend we're going back to the pigeon property.  I want some more stew!

Excellent shot placement with your Mrod on those avian intruders.  And they were telling me the last couple of years that my .22 Condor was a bit too much for feather and squirrels :)  Now half the people shoot everything with a .25 (Mrod).  Oh how times change.. ;D ;D

Well judging on the look on that last bird's eyes.... the .25 may have been too much LMBO!!
