Title: rat down
Post by: one_shot on November 18, 2012, 12:37:50 AM
while sighting in my old stoeger x10 177 at night,15 yards out.....i was about to break the second stage of the trigger....when something behind my backstop caught my eye.i quickly slewed over to see a red eye,and brown fury head duck away behind my brick back stop.so i quickly adjusted my light, and waited.less than a min later a rats head appeared.put a hole in my fence....but it was worth it.
took his cap off.
the rat lived for another 20 mins,a few weeks back a rat chewed some wires on my 97 2dr tahoe .....causing the fuel pump to short out....a $400 messup.i blamed this rat.without being or sounding sadistic,or sick....i took off all of his limbs with my 54 from 15 yards before ending his life with a 14.3 grains to the fusebox.
pay attention to the size of the bottle cap on top of the rat for size reference.

I won't loose any sleep over it. Sounds like just recompense. Each leg for each $100 spent. Good riddance.

I'm glad you got your rat.
Shooting it's limbs off before it was dead. Not cool in my book.

Your right...no creature deserves to suffer.i was just caught up in the moment, aggrevated about my trucks wires and let some rage out, while testing my shooting skills.
I felt bad about it afterwards.
Im not sure he felt anything, pulling his lid off only left him breathing,no movement after that.

You're probably right. With his lid off, he was brain dead. Only thing working was breathing.

he was motionless from 1st shot to the final headshot....besides impact movement.the 54 is an animal.
but you still have a valid point bro,it aint cool to do that.

i love doing this....more than target shooting....lol.
these critters are smart and observant.they will keep poping their heads up and investigating, then disapearing a few mins before commiting to full body views.gotta be patient with these, ill let em play for a few mins before being the under taker.
the thrill is there for sure.

thanx guys....if another shows up within the hour....i promise a head shot.
id like to test the 54's...and my ability and blow a set of ears off,but the rat will run and most likely not return for me to prove it....lol.
im confident ....even in the low light condition i could get the eyeball dead center,or blow a nose clean off.notice that bottle cap is just about dead center, that shot was 20 yards a few mths ago with the 54 and cphp.54 beats my disco anyday of the week.accuracy wise anyway.ease of use in a hunt....thats a different story.

LMBO YES! Whenever I've gone to NYC I always see a rat that looks like it could carry a cat in its mouth... but that New York of course... sewer rats the size of Rottweilers. Not so big in Boston, but still present. Unfortunately I can't lug my Remington around either of these cities haha so im stuck blowing away average rats and other steroid-less rodents. Good luck!!
