Title: D56-TH or Air Arms Pro Sport
Post by: Dockey 454 on November 14, 2012, 07:33:19 PM
Wife told me she would buy me the D56-TH for Christmas. Now that she said that I been looking around a little. I also like the Air Arms pro sport a lot. I'm going to use it a little field target, and bench shooting. It is going to be in 177. What do you guys think. Having a hard time making up my mind.

Edited for Christmas.

The 56th is a great gun and I am a Diana fan but got to go with the prosport on this one. Airarms fit and finish is just beautiful. They are also one of the smoothest gun out of the box. IMHO the Diana is also a little over powered in .177 unless shooting heavy pellets.

Good luck!

Dustin I also like my Diana's. The more I read about the pro sport, the more I like it. It also offers a walnut stock.

Just a little taste of Airarm quality and accuracy.

My Tx200 Mklll .177

Target shot from bench @ 40 yards.

Pic's don't show the finish that well but the only way I can describe the blueing is that it looks like Black Glass.

The 56th is Matte finish like my 34 pro.

Dustin just watched the video. It looks like everyone agrees that the pro sport is the one. Thanks to everyone for the help. Air arms it is, unless someone is selling a new d-56 for half price.

Just curious no recommendation here.  Just a question.  Didn't the a 54 or 56 win a FT competition that someone posted?  But other than that wouldn't mind having a Pro Sport.

Haven't heard anything about the 54 or 56 in field target, I'm thinking at 11.3 lbs. without a scope, is starting to get a little heavy. The only gun I own of any kind that weighs that much, is a old sloan 10 ga. double. I think that weights between 13 and 14 lbs.

the thing about the PS vs the 56 is mainly the weight! the PS balance's very very well on the shoulder for off hand shooting! IMO the 48 is better for off hand than the 54 or 56 due the the weight, this puts them in more of a bench class rifle. I've had a few 54's and their way to heavy for a hunting rifle unless you KING KONG! I'm 6' 180lbs and their to much for me even for a bench rifle! The RWS rifles are also no where near the build quality of Air Arms, AA guns of the TX-PS class are internally built like a match gun should be, delrin rings front and rear on the piston, this is way better than buttons on the piston for stability and smooth operation of the shot cycle and easier to maintain, and the triggers IMO are the best out there in a production spring gun and their a set back design and very adjustable! Lothar Walther barrels are standard on these guns! whats not to love accept the price tag LOL!!!!!!! but you get what you pay for! :P

Hector won with his own modified Diana.  The TX200 would be the choice for dedicated FT piston. JMO   I really like the beartrap release over the Diana.

Mike never had my hands on a pro sport. Does it have any type of beartrap. Getting your finger in one of those is really going to hurt.

It does have a anti bear trap safety.

The PS does Not have a bear trap. When you load the PS you hang onto the cocking lever while loading the pellet.

Here's a little common since loar on airguns! and cocking levers or break barrels! It has been said by many many people in the past and now, I don't care who made the gun or what kinda safety mechanism or hold open device is made into the gun never ever take your hand off the cocking lever or barrel on a break barrel gun when loading it! That said the PS does have an internal block that pops up to block the trigger when the lever is in the cocked mode, all airguns {springer's} lock up is held from the piston and trigger mechanism, yes the ratchets on the TX and 48 type rifles give an extra measure of safety but never trust them! JMO :P

OK guys it's been decided. I get the PS in 117 with walnut stock. The wife gets a Sig 250 compact in 9mm. Now the rub, can't order them until next month when she gets her Christmas bonus. I think a little patience is in order for a top of the line gun. Thanks for all the help guys. As soon as I get it I will post pictures.

Good Choice on the PS.....
No sale prices on them = Fair trade product.
Get on a list somewhere..... I've been waiting about a month for my TX.  Word is The stock manufacture Minelli got behind on production of the Walnut stocks. I believe it was lack of raw goods ....don't hold me to it...but pretty certain.

Sorry for the confusion Pete.  I was referring to the blanket discount offers by the retailers, that they offer at the holidays.
The way I see it, the Mfr. delays work out for Tom, in that it buys him some shopping time.  Might make that diggin' a bit easier!  :D

OK guys, I'm now having second thoughts about the PS. This is what happens when you have to much time to think. Been doing a lot of searching about the PS. Some of the things I have found out are. There is no bear trap safety, and that scares me a little. The under lever almost splits the stock in half, that leads to more vibration. Some reviews also said that because of the pivot point of the lever it is hard, and awkward to cock. Is the TX200 a good trade off, as far as accuracy goes. I like the way my D460 lever works. Can hold it with my left hand, and load with my right.

I do.  I'm a Lefty. No problems.  I also use the right hand, and the rifle can tilt over and that opens up the loading port well, for me...so I don't have problems either way.   FWIW.

Arthritis in my left hand makes it a little hard to load small pellets with that hand.

Trade off....from everything I have read they are the same power plant both have LW barrels ...the only diff being the cocking mechanism... I chose the TX because I have shoulder injuries and I'm limited by the amount of cocking effort required buy the PS. TX is 29-30 pounds in stock form. Later in life, and I say that because I intend to have my TX for a long time, Should i require a reduction in cocking effort I would simply drop in a 12 pound kit. I see no trade offs, only advantages.
JMTCW.

Happy Shootin to all!

As far as accuracy well.... Here's a group from 40 yards.

Petey Don't wait for the 12 ft kit. Get a JM FAC kit and leave the piston weight out. This is what JM sugested to me and it is unbelievable. I did not believe a TX could be smoother. You will not believe you are shooting a springer. Chronys around 12ft with no weight and the tesla seal. Very easy to cock too.  ;D

OK guys wife gets her bonus check in 1 1/2 weeks, and we can order my TX200. She told me that even if I get it early, I can't shoot it till Christmas day. Ordered her Sig, that should be in next week. What I need to know about is mounting a scope on the TX. Can't afford the hawke I want right now. I have a leapers 3-12x44 ao new in the box. It came with medium hight weaver rings. Thinking about puting a weaver adapter on the TX. My problem is the adaptors I have found, compensate for barrel droop. If I use one of these is it going to help or hurt when I go to sight in.

You can find weaver adapters that don't have droop compensation, as well as those you mention.  Keep Lookin', they're there.
