I am planning on staking out my yard tonight for skunk and or possums. I have gotten alot of spray around my neighborhood as well as trash picking (definately animals). I am planning on putting out some bait and having a good stake out. Any suggestions on bait? Also after tonight (a collllldddddd night), I'll see how good my Remington Summit 22 holds up and if I see a need to go Nitro Piston. Any side-comments on that technology? (not limiting myself to possums or skunks will hit coons and any other pests!)
I WILL POST PICS OF ANY KILLS!

Open a can or three of Soft Serve CAT FOOD and scatter about. The stench in the air will bring em in no problem.

If you get a skunk, good luck in handling it. It may put out some death stink that could last for a loooong time from what I read. In a battle between me and a skunk, the skunk will win.

Long underwear ;)

Nail a can of sardines to an old tree stump.... it'll draw them in from a long way :)

Thanks for all the feedback... and Devdem ill definately be wary of that stink. I've heard grape jelly is a skunk favorite anybody used it before? plus on a skunk to avoid the spray a well placed shot between the shoulder bladfe? or where is the optimal spot for a quick and odorless kill?
-
I had luck with head shots on 2 but on another 2 they let go. Some have said a spine shot, others double lung but with a powder burner. And lime works well for grass if they spray, watch where you walk if they do ;)
-
Well i guess if i DONT kill it... itll just keep spraying around the house like it has been... but if i DO kill it... it'l maybe spray one more time... then wont do much after haha!

Very true Kev! Good hunting! ( have a few around now and then I may take out at some point)
-
considering ive been at work at the dealership since 745 A.M. and am not out until 9 P.M. I may fall asleep at my post! However if I bag anything I will certainly post pics!

Can't emphasize the odor risk from a skunk enough. Let it go 'til daylight at least. Then aproach with shoes on you *WILL* remove prior to entry to the house. Second, have a second opinion as to presence of odor upon re-entry. Third, even with these precautions, YOU ARE ON YOR OWN with a spraying skunk...it is nothing to trifle with.
Best o' luck in any case...patience and silence pay off in this stuff.
cheers,
Douglas

Well I hope its a possum I see not skunk haha but whatever I see (if anything) Im shootin it! :D :D

Good luck on your hunt. Make sure you hit the skunk in the right place(instant death).
You don't want it spraying the yard. ;)

good luck kev on your hunt, keep us informed. Fellow gta member sparky and myself shot four possums in bout hour and a half a few weeks ago. We set up a pop up hunting blind twenty yards from out bait pile hung up a led head lamp up in the trees shining down, worked great. He had a cheap plastic fold up table in the blind and we threw our shooting bags on it and had at it. We also threw my portable lp heater in there also, shooting in comfort, it was awesome.

Well, how did it go Kev?

Embarrassingly I fell asleep before I could get into position! 13.5 hour days will do that to ya! Gunna try again tonight! Sorry! I'll update tonight as I go along!

Make up a nice pot of CHILI, to help you warm up after the hunt ! ! !

Gunna have to accept defeat for tonight. NO movement whatsoever. Hopefully I can get my self up tomorrow before sun up and take out a couple squirrels. That'll at least christen my remington, plus get those things out from under the house!

if sleep is a problem buy one of those driveway alert alarms. when the critter crosses in front of it , the device either buzzes or flashes a light, or both depending of the model. you can put your receiver next to your bed. this way you only have to be awake to shoot em! OR you could set up a trail cam see if they come at the same time, then just set your alarm for 30 mins earlier (gives ya time to have a coffee) good luck.
