if quiet matters the mrod is shrouded. if triggers matter the mrod is completely adjustable and better than the discovery. if you want something thats a multishot, mrod. accuracy wise i would say they are the same. the mrod is also completely adjustable for power/shot count. not that the discovery isnt a good rifle cause it is. but the mrod has more features and adjustability in stock form. if those additional features don't appeal or matter, then get the discovery. ;D

either one you get, you'll be happy. the darkside is powerful. :D ;D

The Mrod is very adjustable as above mentioned.
But A Mrod trigger assy can be put on the discovery.
One more thing to consider is weight. The Mrod is a heavy gun. Very hard to shoot offhand IMO. Not a very good "woods gun".
The disco is pretty light compared to the Mrod.

Good luck deciding between two great guns.  ;D

Well..... If you get the .22 Mac1 Disco it will be a guaranteed shooter(Cost around $300, comes professionally tuned)..only thing is waiting for it! The .22 Mrod is also a good buy(costing around $450), comes with a lot of options that make it an overall better gun than the disco.. But Both guns have their place

Power wise.. The Mac1 Disco will come tuned for 18.13 JSB shooting 25-26 fpe and will have a power adjuster to turn it up to 30fpe. The Marauder will come from the factory shooting 25-27 fpe, but can be turned up to around 35fpe... Accuracy will be pretty close with both guns once you know their favorite pellets

If i could only have one it would be a Marauder. luckily I have both

I had a 22 Mrod and sold it.  I still have my 22 Disco.  The Disco for me was the best all around rifle. It's lighter, handier to carry around, and easier hand pumped.  I didn't need the magazine or adjustments of the Mrod for my uses.

Just do what I did.
Buy the Mrod.
Then buy the Disco.
Problem solved.
You know you really want both.
Give in to the Dark Side.
You know you want to...

It's only money.  Spend it before the govt. takes it.

214 it just depends on your needs. If you want a multi shooter then you can mod a disco into a quiet 10 shot rifle with a mrod trigger, power adjuster and a shroud on it if you would want to go that route but I'd personally only recommend doing that if the mrod was too long and heavy for you since modding the disco that way will cost more than the mrod. The stock disco is lighter and shorter which is the only reason I went with it instead of the mrod. Mine is modded that way and weighs 7lbs with a scope and is 45" long with the shroud.

I'd have Tim work up a Marauder for you in .25 cal.  It has an aftermarket barrel (just the .25 since Crosman doesn't make .25 cal barrels and had to out-source to Green Mountain), so you don't need a match barrel.  Typically to get a Discovery to work best, it needs a shroud/brake and a better barrel, which runs close to $200-$300 more by the time you are done with adding and changing stuff.

To paraphrase Tim the last time I was there, "You might as well get the Marauder if you start adding stuff to the Discovery".  His point was that $100 and then $200 goes flying by with mods.  And you're within a literal handful of dollars of the price of a Marauder.   Especially when what you're trying to do usually is to try to turn it into a Marauder or add features that already come on the Maraduer.

The Marauder is ready to go.  Tuned by Tim, it'll be exactly what you need.   Whatever you chose to have him work on, have him adjust it for accuracy instead of power.  Most places up the power with their mods until the rifle won't shoot very well.(pet peeve of mine)  You can get 35-40ft-lbs out of most PCPs but you pay for that - loads more noise and incredibly picky about pellets as a rule.

One way to get a lot of the weight down on these guns, is to make sure you get a compact scope. Also, use a sling.  The weight difference is meaningless if it's on your back. Note that the Marauder stock has sling swivel mounts on it and the Discovery doesn't.  People complain about the weight, but while the Discovery is lighter, you have to carry it (or mod the thing further and add swivel mounts).   The Maruader you simply attach a sling and forget about it.

Having a bolt-action repeater is also immensely fun.  It turns it from a paper-punching tool that can also be used for hunting (which describes almost all airguns, IMO) into a usable purpose-built hunting rifle.  You don't see single shot rifles in your local gun store any more for a reason.

As a child we were not aloud to have semi-auto riffle ( except shotguns ) reason being to learn to make the shot count. Be patient, walk away from shots that are unethical. To become a marksman. Any body can blast 10 rounds into a animals butt and drop it ( cause they finally hit the spin )  WOW theres a hunter :)

Heavy and multishot or light and single shot.  Both are awesome guns.  I have only shot an mrod .25  Never the .22  I have owned 4 discos and loved them all.   All four where great shooters.

My bad.  I forgot about kids rifles. ;)       Virtually all rifles today have a magazine, though, and it's kind of silly that so many airguns still don't.

Sportsman214,
Only a couple of months ago, I was asking the same questions, making the same decision(s).
As has been already mentioned by many here, you need to first decide what your priorities, needs, and intended use will be.

Next, be realistic about what your budget really is... (then expect to go 50% to 100% over that). lol.

I get the feeling this is your first venture into the Dark Side. If this is correct, you need to realize that the rifle is only part of the equation.
The Disco operates at 2000psi and can easily be used with a good hand pump. it is single shot, and you will get a fair amount of shots/time before needing to top it off. (more pumping)
The Mrod comes tuned for 2500-2600psi,  has a larger air reservoir, and can be tuned up to 3000psi. Personally, I wouldn't want to use a hand pump for that. (but many here do, and there is nothing wrong with that). The Mrod is a multi shot Bolt action repeater, and I guarantee you will be going through more pellets/air/refills than you ever imagined. Translation- even more frequent and more difficult pumping.
Naturally the next step up is a air fill tank set-up. (more cost)

The Disco will be quite content with a basic 3000psi scuba tank, plenty of fills, and readily available for sale used on CL for CHEAP.

The Mrod Will work with a scuba tank, but you are basically starting off with a full tank, that rapidly runs low, and you will not get nearly as many rifle refills. Those refills that you Do get, will be progressively less psi with each refill.
You live in Phelan. I grew up going camping down on the dry lakebed. I'm very familiar with your area, and to the best of my knowledge, there is not too many Dive Shops in/near Phelan. (you also must consider where you will be getting a tank refilled).

The Mrod is "happier" being filled from a HPA tank (4500psi scba type). LOTS more rifle refills, but then again, it's more cost.
and here again,... do you have a local place that is going to be able to refill a 4500psi tank ?

I have found that many Sport Chalet stores offer 4500psi refills, and cheap too ! ($5 for a refill to 4500psi ),...
BUT,...
being that you are basically out in the middle of the desert, any local Sports Chalet MAY not have a dive department, or refill compressor. all I'm saying is check them out first, before committing yourself and your money.

Then of course there is the comparative costs between 3000psi scuba tanks (easily had for about $100 used) vs. a CF scba 4500psi tank. I got a relatively good deal on my 4500psi tank. Between tank, yoke, hose, fittings, etc.,.....
I've got $500 wrapped up in it, without even counting the cost of the rifle.
I went into this with the idea I was building a over the top Bench gun, for up to 100yds.
my current set-up is a .22 Mrod Rifle cost (over $400), Mac-1 tune (approx.$95), scope (approx. $70+),  Bipod ($approx. $50-60), Shroud extender (approx. $30), "ratting" light and mount (approx. $40), extra magazines (approx. $20 each), and various other mod/add-ons ($225-250).
Of course you don't NEED all of those extra's,... but trust me as a fellow newbie,... the "disease" will have it's way with you,... and the UPS/FedEx Drivers will soon know you on a first name basis.

Soon after, you start liking the looks of Laser Designators, Chronograph's, after market Extended Barrels, aftermarket Stocks,  "through scope" Camera mounts, Field boxes, Sand bag sets, Match grade Pellets, Hard sided Rifle Cases,.... and a bunch of other "stuff ". Think I'm kidding ??? Wanna know what I was doing today ??? I was installing Solar powered, Motion sensored, LED lights up and down my newly designated Air gun rifle range.... Motion Sensor Driveway Alert (aka Ding Donger)... and building a couple of improved "Silent Trap Target Holders". Nahhhh,... it's not addicting,..... not at all !!!

Once you decide on what airgun you want, Tell Tim I said Hi,... he'll help you decide, and do you right.
and from one newbie to another, welcome to GTA.
There are a lot of great guys here who are experienced and knowledgeable.
They will be happy to help you out and decide on what you will be spending your cash on next.
Just tell the wife/girlfriend that it's really not your fault,... It's THEIR fault, and they MADE you do it !

Have fun, Shoot straight, Shoot safe

Oh, one thing that is in the Marauder's favor.

Sport Chalet has a free refill option on smaller "pony" tanks.   So the smart thing to do is spend $120 on a larger pony tank and just get free refills.  You'll be refilling it every couple of weeks, but so what.   A typical tank is small enough to take to the range with you as well, unlike a full-sized tank (that also will need to be secured almost like a water heater here in CA, if it's in your garage)

+1 for what Ron said.  Well said!!!!

Addicted? Me? ...........NAHHHHH!  LOL!

ps.  everyone has given good advice but the final decision is your's based only upon what you want or feel is important to you so just buy both and get it over with!!  That's what most of us did.  Join the club.

I hunt and target shoot all of them but for ease of carry and to get your foot in the door go with the MAC1 disco in 22 and put a TKO LDC. later if you want you can add the BNM multibreechs if you choose.discos are pump friendly marauders are not.I use cheap walmart centerpoint 4x16 AO scopes on medium rings.if you are shooting under 50 yards get a prod make her a carbine and drill out the transfer port to .110 she will shoot h+n 14.66 ftt 750fps plus she is light accurate quiet and has a great trigger.without knowing what your exact needs are we are all going to be pretty biased and subjective but there is a lot of help here when i started i had a stock 2240 with these guys and gals help i have modded all my guns. you start stock then you mod its the curse of a darksider
also if you dont mind driving 80 miles south you can PM me and come down and shoot any of my guns before making a decision i have a 30 yard range in my backyard
