Title: Please Help Me Decide
Post by: Shoot Straight on November 03, 2012, 05:18:10 PM
I am going to buy another pcp next year, but I can't make up my mind on which one I want. So please vote for the one you would buy and after ten days I will most likely choose which ever one has the most votes.

diso's are super fun to build and mod out and you can really create a awesome personalized rifle..

All depends on your preferences. If you want a light rifle to mod then get the disco. If you want a heavy & longer rifle to mod then get the mrod. If you don't want to mess with modding and don't mind a heavy gun then get either the mrod or 10(I would personally try the 10 in that case).

I already got one Disco. and I want to keep it the way it is. That's why I'm thinking about getting another one.

What do you want from it?  what you gonna do with it?  .25 Marauders are fun to play with out at long range.  They simply impress the heck out of me right from the box, especially for the money.  They are air hogs though and it can get a bit tiresome to keep them fed.  Oh yea,  what kind of modding do you want to do, radical stuff?

Mainly just a BNM Breech with the shroud and I want to install a Maruder trigger.

you will be a few pounds lighter then a mrod, deff a good setup.. or get the bnm breech, mrod trigger and a laminate thumbhole or traditional stock from norm... i think he also sells the mrod trigger, so you can get everything from him.. i know he does the stocks and the bnm breech setups with shrouds ..

My vote is for the Discovery...you can add a double tube for double the number of shots, a BNM breach with many configurations for different type shrouds to keep it backyard friendly, differently configured stocks from original to Boyds blaster laminates and many others in between and as Mike said, you can have a personalized, one of a kind rifle. Not to mention that it is not an airhog, only needs to be pumped to 2000psi (though it will shoot better with less fill at around 1750psi) and it is capable of taking game as large as possum and coon with proper shot placement. Sure, you can get an MRod that looks just like your neighbors or the guy down the street and pump your nads off to keep it fed with enough air or go for the lightweight carbine with unlimited mod combinations that can do an impressive job at targets or hunting and won't feel like a cinderblock while out all day in the woods. Yes, I am biased toward the discovery but it is worthy in it's own right. "Ooh-Rah!"

and if down the road you got your double tube and wanted to switch to a 25cal all you need is a new bolt and breech block for about 40 bucks from sergio and you can find 25cal barrels machined to fit crosman breechs so they would work on the bnm breech.

I voted for the 25 Mrod but I am probably biased as well. ;D

It's shrouded out of the box, very accurate at long distance, trigger is excellent, and it's a repeater. On paper, it has the most features but if weight and air consumption are major concerns, the 25 may not be the best choice.

I don't think you stated what you would be using it for. For hunting, hands down the 25. For backyard target shooting or plinking, maybe a .177 Mrod?

Pneuma, ...Of course :)

Why limit yourself to just those three choices? And most importantly you need to state your intended usage. Will you be hunting, shooting pests, or punching holes in paper? Will you need a quiet rifle for backyard use? I personally would spend a little more and buy a new Evanix Rainstorm II in .25cal. Small, light, powerful and good looking. I've owned a couple of Korean rifles and I love 'em. The Koreans know how to build powerful air rifles designed for hunting.

I personally would get a tuned Marauder from Mac1 airguns and essentially be done with it.  Tinkering and having fun is something best left to a 2240, IMO.  Since you are in Texas, you probably will appreciate the extra range from the .25.  Also, the .25 Marauder somes with a Green Mountain barrel, so it doesn't really need a match barrel option.

He's one of the top airgunsmiths in North America and can literally do anything you want.  His "tuned" rifles are quite literally taken apart and everything is gone over, polished, adjusted, and fixed if need be.  It's actually a great deal for the money as you have a ready-to-go gun right out of the box.

what is the ideal price you want to spend? whats the most you can spend on a pcp?
that info will get you a better suited answer

Sorry for not giving ya'll enough info. My major thing I want in my new pcp is long range accuracy for long range hunting and it deliver plenty of foot pounds of energy to take down decent size small game out to forty or so yards. My price range is around $500 for just the gun. I personally am looking at the Marauder because that seems it would suit my needs and the majority of the votes are for the Marauder.

you can get a 2011 model talon ss for 499 or maybe it was the 2011 condors that are 499 and the talon ss and talon that are cheaper.. but just an option if you hadnt considered them

I own 2 discos, have had the opportunity to shoot the pneuma and just recently bought a .25 Mrod.  That being said..... I'd get the .25 Mrod.

My discos are great guns and they've always performed well for me,,, the pneuma I shot was nice but just not my cup of tea and my .25 Mrod was just awesome right from the box.... I can't say enough good things about it.

Interesting Jeff, what did you not like about the pneuma? I've never shot one. I just have the disco so I'm wondering how it compares to that.

I have all three, though the Pnuma is single shot.  If I could only have one of the three I would keep the Pnuma (Hatsan AT44), its the most flexible of the three in stock format for general use.  The disco of course can be made into near anything and the Marauder is nice but clunky in stock format.  The two Crosmans though can be modified readily, if that's the important factor.
