Title: Good Saturday Hunt
Post by: Froghunter on October 23, 2010, 10:56:01 PM
All,

Had two enjoyable hunts today with my son. We went in the A.M. which we both missed the same squirrel. He shot at it twice and I shot at it once. We had to leave around 10 because the wife had an appointment and we needed to do the two week grocery shopping. I stopped in to Wally World and purchase all the Crosman Pointed Huntin pellets they had left for the boy. 1,500 pellets for 8 bucks.

This afternoon the son and I where back in the bus hide (It's a old 50s or 60s bus body on the ground in the woods...most of the windows are gone and I use my lawn chair and the boy uses an old bucket to sit on...nice hide) The first squirrel was harvested at 25 yards. The CPL hit just behind the head in the neck/spine. He was done for. The second one was hit hard right between the eyeball and the ear. Fusebox hit. She hang on with a death grip long enough for the boy to make contact with another rump shot. I got to hand it to him, he did back me up! ;) Tomorrow we are going to shot some targets at different ranges to see what's going on with him and the rifle. Both of the squirrels where older and will cook up nicely in the slow cook! I was using the HW-50s with CPL and he was using the HW-30 with Crosman Pointed Hunters?

Way to go Bill!  It must be nice to hunt with someone else, especially your son!  Perfect father-son bonding.  My grandfather took me bird hunting with him a couple of times.  The 1st time he did not give me a gun.  He was using a 12ga shotgun.  The 2nd time when I was about a year older (13), he gave me a .410 to use for rabbit/squirrel, after we practiced with slug shells.  I will never forget either one.  Too bad my uncle got all those beautiful shoguns (with engravings on stock & metal - don't remember the brand) and are now sitting in his closet rusting and collecting dust.

All the guys above said it perfectly.  You can't beat a father son hunt......so I've heard.  My dad isn't the woodsy or hunting type.  Good shooting, you and your son top

Can't wait to share those times with my son but I have a long time to wait as he's only 9 months old!! Nice hunting and I cherish the few times my Dad and I went together. I used to go with my Grandpa all the time as my Dad worked long hours and was on the road all the time.

Thanks guys! We are doing okay and enjoying our time together. He's nine and will be ten this year 16 Dec. Alot of people would say he was alittle young, but I was running around the woods and yard at his age with a Daisy Buck 105 with no supervision. Alot of English Sparrows fell to that little BB gun in my Mom-mom's chicken house and locate area.
