Decided on getting a pcp, it will be my first. I know I want the Discovery in .22 cal with the hand pump, but I'm really also leaning towards a Marauder in .25. Of course, with the marauder I would get a scuba tank. The price is going to be about the same because I can get a pretty good discount on the Marauder ($430 give or take) so that isn't really an issue. Which one would you guys recommend? I would use it for small game hunting, pest control, and some plinking. I like the idea of the extra knock down power with the Marauder in .25, but I know you don't get as many consistant shots with it. Since I will most likely get a scuba tank in the future, which one should I get? Thanks, Quinn.

Boy, that is Apples and Oranges :) :) LOL
-
Go for the marauder if you can swing it. Love my disco but the .25 marauder is so much nicer. B&A had them for $325 too.
-
.25 Marauder.
Edit: The .25 barrel is higher quality than the .22 or .177 barrels. Not sure about the Discovery's. With the Marauder, you have the option to add the 8-shot clip, although it probably won't shoot as accurate as without the clip. Both are sweet guns, but the .25 Marauder is capital "S" Sweet.

Get the apple not the orange
-
Get the M rod for sure. Sorry but I haven't noticed any difference between single shot and the magazines.

This may seem like a weird reply but, I'm selling my MRod .25 cal with scuba tank and the adapter to fill the gun...the reason...IMHO it's not as fun as a break barrel! The MRod is so accurate it's almost boring. Long range shooting and dealing with windage is ok, but I really enjoy plinking and hunting not long range shooting. The MRod is really accurate and if that's your thing then I recommend the MRod.

Before you decide take a look at the Rainstorm in both the 22 & 25 and you will be much happier. The best thing I ever did was to buy my Rainstorm 22 and sell the MRod. No comparison at all! I'm not saying I did not like my MRod while I had it but the Rainstorm has it all over the MRod

I had tje 725 NP XL benji, I like the gun but it is just too much for me to handle because of my age and arm muscles. Even from a rest . I can't handle many guns but the m rod are sweet for PCPs.

If you're going to get a scuba tank then I'd say get the .25 Mrod. I simply can't say enough good things about mine. I also have a .22 Disco, a .177 Disco and a .22 Mrod and they are all great shooters, but my new .25 Mrod has stolen my heart :)

Well worth the extra cash indeed, agree with Norm 100 %

^ Did you guys have the .25 Mrod, or the .177 or .22?
-
I have the Mrod 22 and 25 and the are so easy to diagnose and work on and I depinged, took the lawyer spring off and added extensions on both and the bstaley mod . They drive tack ans the saying goes. I also use the shoebox compressor and I also use a 44 and 88 cu ft SCBA tanks. Love them all.

Yeah Mrod .25 is a very nice shooter but so is the .22 mrod I have and the discovery .22. But if I had only one it would be an mrod.
-
Buy both. Just practice your poker face for when your wife asks about them ;D ;D ;D
-
Yes, practice the poker face. If that fails, Hand her the Disco and say, "I just want to spend more time with you, so I got you something". She'll roll her eyes and let you be..........Maybe she'll get hooked on the PCP too.
-
I have the .25 and .22 M-rod, a .177 disco in a Katana stock and most recent purchase a .22 Katana. Love them all. Just recently got a .22 replacement barrel for the M-rod as the origianal is inaccurate. May get the LW barrel for it. I also have a Bam50 .22 cal to round off my PCP collection.

Now that's not necessarilly true you know. She may be into something more expensive. Mine ended up with about 20 K in sewing machines etc. ::)

I chose the disco over the mrod because of it's lighter weight and shorter length so that is something to consider. With the shroud, multi shot breech, mrod trigger assy and scope my disco weighs 7lbs 3oz. If the weight and length are no issue for you then the mrod would be better. If the loudness is no issue then consider the rainstorm since the quality will be better than the benj rifles. I don't know if the rainstorm can be shrouded or if the trigger can be modified to make it more quiet and have a lighter pull so someone else would need to help with that. If so then I'd definitely choose the rainstorm.
-
Another reason to consider the Disco .22 is the 2000 maxpsi. Pumping is a breeze, especially when you fill to the sweet spot which could be as much as 300 psi; less pumping. I chose the Disco over the Marauder for the same reasons as Squirrelkiller and I already had a powerhouse in .25.
-
The Rainstorm out performs the MRod & Disco in all areas. It is shrouded and much quieter than the MRod and quieter than my Disco with the BNM Breech & Shroud. The side lever is butter smooth. Trigger is adjustable as it the power.
I had a MRod when I got my Rainstorm and the MRod went to the Classifieds within a week! The Rainstorm is a little more money but worth every cent.
I am not saying the MRod or the Disco are not very good rifles but just that the Rainstorm is in a different class. I still have two Discos, one being my custom 16"LW Barrel Disco Double Tube .25 BNM Breech Carbine modified w/higher strength valve bolts making it capable of 3000 PSI fills that will out perform any MRod and a .22 Disco with a BNM Breech & shroud. The Discos are just a great light weight rifle that are a pleasure to shoot.

^ Did you guys have the .25 Mrod, or the .177 or .22?
i still have my mrod .22! when the mrod was my first and only pcp,i was pleased even though it was heavy and ugly!Once i got the rainstorm , it was another dimension! The rainstorm lever is just awesome(cycle smoothly and doesn't feed two pellets ever),high shoot count, very light rifle, beautifull design and stock, the magazine is not cheap plastic like the marauder!!THEN AGAIN,A MROD IS 440$, i can't complain much! There is a two stage adjustable trigger on the evanix but you have to remove the indonesian stock.
I can't talk about Discovery,i never shoot one!

I'd bump up my post that's above stating that the .25 Mrod barrel is higher quality than the .22 or .177 Mrod (pertaining to the "rifle" style of Marauder), but we can't bump posts in a thread, lol. Most of us know this of the .25 Mrod's barrel quality, but some don't. The .25 Mrod's barrel is outsourced. One of the GTA pros can chime in on this. I'm thinking it's made in USA but I'm not sure.
The .25 Marauder will compete with guns 3 times its cost. Best bang for your buck, in my opinion. Plus, you have Crosman's excellent USA customer service for the cherry on top. For a slim wallet, Marauder .25 is a steal of the decade. Just my opinion.
edited for grammar errors

My Rainstorm was more quiet than my Maurader .25
The Rainstorm Trigger can be made real light

^ I don't doubt the Rainstorm whatsoever. I'm actually ignorant to it, to be honest. It just might, and probably could, outshoot a Marauder .25. I'm just talking best bang-for-buck. I have never even shot a PCP, but I've read a ton. Tons of options in guns. The original poster started with Discovery .22 and Marauder .25. We have no idea what his bank is :). My slender bank, on the other hand, won't go anymore than an Mrod .25 :). I have nothing against you all getting better guns :). But, anyways... :).
-
If the Disco and MRod are what is your price range you will not go wrong with either as they are both very good guns for the money

with that said buy the mrod. ;D dont look back, you'll love it. ;D feature for feature the mrod has more to offer than the discovery. by the time you mod the discovery you could have bought the mrod. ;D unless you are looking to mod something, in which case i would get the discovery. ;D

Couldn't have said it any better!

Yeah, can't afford a rainstorm. Probably go with the marauder.
