Title: New Drozd Blackbird owner. Questions..
Post by: 02stampede on October 08, 2012, 09:23:58 PM
I acquired a, new to me, Blackbird. It has a drozdmax tactical barrel, and the full auto mod chip. It's a pretty well built gun and is fun to shoot.

The problem is, the 90 gram CO2 cartridges I have don't last very long. I have this hpa paintball tank. http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Energy-Compressed-Tank-3000psi/dp/B0008G2W8O (http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Energy-Compressed-Tank-3000psi/dp/B0008G2W8O) Can I use this with a remote on the blackbird? If not, what should I get to make it work? I have a dive shop right around the corner so I would like to stick with 3000psi hpa.

Also, what kind of accuracy do most get out of these? On full auto, I got around fist size groups at 10-15 yards.

Man I wish I had a blackbird :-\ Yeah you can use the tank with a remote line, i'm not sure if its plug and play though.  As for accuracy I heard they can be accurate with lead balls, what ammo are you using?

You can attach that tank with a remote or get a smaller tank and attach it directly to the gun (9-48ci works). If you want more power you can get higher psi regulator and up the voltage while keeping it below 15V. Fist size groups at that range are typical for full auto. With good ammo (nickel plated lead shots) and single shots you can get down to about 1" at 12 yards.

Here's 48 ci tank mounted directly to the gun:

13ci tanked "grab and go" model:

Thanks for the replies!

I hope the hpa gives me a bit more power than the CO2 cartridges. I'm guessing it's somewhere around the 500 fps range with a fresh one. It's not even powerful enough to penetrate a gatorade bottle. I'm going to have to get some better batteries and maybe a higher psi regulated tank as well.

Post your questions to http://azure.bbboy.net/straferbbmachinegunownersgroup-viewforum?forum=10 (http://azure.bbboy.net/straferbbmachinegunownersgroup-viewforum?forum=10) and you'll get lot's of knowledgeable answers. First you need to tune your solenoid and pot, that should get you past 600 fps. Then more voltage and 1200-1400 psi bottle and you can go over 800 fps. There's also russian 2000 rpm chipboard available and some people have gone transonic with their highly tuned drozds so you can make it quite a mean machine. I have chip, 15" barrel, about 1200 psi and 14V and I can do 12 fpe with my gun - thats about 240 fpe/s  ;D

Once modded for full auto the guns are useless on the CO2 supply. Since the seakls in the gun do notr tolerate CO2 well the best approach is to put a Drozd to ASA adapter. You pop the back end off at the two mountibng poui nts up top and slip the shoulder stock off and fit the 48CI directly to the gun. The back of the 48CI uis your butt stock now and the systeren freeezing up is a thiong of the past.
This is an extremely good Air gun that happens to come as a CO2 guhjn but is best to be set-up as HPA regulated to 800 or 1000 PSI. Coily remotes and remote set-ups are not the best way.
You have everything the gun needs except the Tank and adapter which will put you in Drozd Bliss for under a $100.
