Title: CASA 10/07/2012 Silhouette Match Report
Post by: Scotchmo on October 07, 2012, 09:16:47 PM
CASA (California Airgun Shooters Association)

I was asked to write the match report for the first silhouette match that I have ever participated in. After going 0/8 in the offhand shots at the 2012 National FT Championships in Oregon, I decided I would put the effort into learning offhand. And silhouette is all about offhand shooting. Hector Alfaro had volunteered to conduct a class/seminar after the match. That was the tipping point that got me to do a silhouette match. I was the only newbie silhouette shooter so I actually got one on one tutoring between shooting each set of targets. We had six shooters and calm winds. We each shot two rounds (40 targets per session). Some of us just rifles, and others, both rifle and pistol:

I shot my trusty 12fpe TF58 piston gun in the first session. I have a 20fpe TF87 piston gun that I have wanted to try in the winds at Heavens Ranch. I decided to test it out here first. It shot OK in session 2, but after the match, I went back to the bipod to try and confirm the zero for next week’s Field Target match. It was all over the place again. I was suspecting the scope the last time that I was trying to hold the zero, but maybe it just does not like to be rested on a bipod or shooting sticks.

The silhouette matches will give me a consistent series of targets to shoot offhand. So it should help me improve and track my offhand progress this year. And that goal is high on my list right now.

PS - the formatting does not carry over well. Next time, I'll try it another way.
