Title: Peep on the HW30s
Post by: huklbery on October 04, 2012, 11:33:51 PM
I had bought a couple of the Air Venturi inexpensive sheet & pot metal peep sights.

The first worked great on a Hammerli Pnuma (Hatsan AT44 single shot .177) and held on no problem as it had no recoil.   Unfortunately even with the mild recoil of the HW30 inevitably the sight would work its way loose and fall off.  Rather than try and get the pot metal affixed better in the dovetails, I cobbled this together with a utg mount.  It may not be as pretty as the rifle deserves but it will hold on now.

Ok after work & the Vet visit still have some daylight.  Did the roughing in shots to get on the 6 o'clock with the HW tiny ball recticle front.  Set down to try a 10 shot group,  despite not being in the grove after a hectic day.  The first shot was the upper one, I pulled it, the other 9 was due to me and timing my sway.  Now the problem is this is actually better than my vision, I can't resolve as close as these shots landed.  So I'm thrilled despite being out of practice with the trigger, the rifle is far more capable than the shooter.  A "better" rifle will not help and the peep is going to be as good as it gets for me without magnification.  I still like the IZH61 as well at these close ranges but I could never keep 10 shots this close as the HW30 is more than capable of.  Lucky tomorrow I get to put some time in with it as the rest of the month isn't going to have much shooting time available.
