Title: Daystate Wolverine
Post by: JL on October 01, 2012, 11:49:23 AM
Just received my new Wolverine but am very disappointed. The gun itself is beautiful but
I can't shoot it accurately. It pushed those big .303 50 gr. pellets to 975 fps. The only
problem was it didn't group better than 1 1/4 inches at 45 yds.It may be me just unable to
shoot it accurately. The other major thing
I didn't like was you can't uncock the thing the only way is to fire it. I did contact
Daystate and they sent me a fix to the problem but as I already sent it back it didn't
matter.

Sorry you are having problems with your new gun.... Could you please measure the HEAD diameter of the pellets with a micrometer or digital calipers for us?.... We are all dying to know if they are 0.308" or 0.311", or something else....

Defenately unacceptable for the price of that rifle.

It would be interesting to try different ammo in one to see how it functioned.

Interesting.... They call it a .303 and yet the pellets are smaller than what you would normally use in a .30 cal (0.308" head size).... The bore on the Wolverine must be smaller than a Lothar Walther .30 cal barrel.... Thanks for the information....

Ahhhh man!  $2700 gun with accuracy issues.  I would be a little miffed too!  Hope they get you fixed.

That is a funky dimentions set for them pellets, so is the bore actually less than .300 ?

Just a wild guess but I bet the lands are .300 and the groves are .310. A standard .30 caliber barrel. I have a feeling the folks that speced out the pellets where trying to reduce the friction and bearing surfaces so they went with a bore sized head and a grove sized skirt.

It would be interesting to see what a .320 roundball would do out of that barrel. I have had better results out of them than the OP did with diablo pellets.

that sad that you paid soo much for only an average accuracy rifle... you can get 4 shin sungs for that price and get better accuracy and power... I had such high hopes for the wolverine.... maybe someone like Mr Hollowpoint should make heavier pellets for it..

Thats a pretty broad statement to be throwing about. There are folks shooting well under 1" groups at 100 yards with this gun, and some are working on 150-200 yards.

Yes I feel bad for the OP, but it clearly was not the gun for him.

I said in my write up that the accuracy issue could have been me. I guess that was the
case since AOA tested it and said it shot 1/2 inch groups at 50 yrds. It looks like I need
more experience with the bigger calibers. All said I do think it is the best that Daystate
has yet to produce. I would by another if it were available in .25.

What I would like to see is a full comparison of the Daystate Wolverine vs the Evanix Conquest in 9mm... I know some of you may say that this is like comparing apples and oranges, but they are both big bore air rifles, pushing at or close to 100 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. I guess I have to wait and and see if someone is willing to take this challenge up...

I don't know, ...still can't really consider a 90+ FPE gun shooting a pellet a Big Bore,  a better comparison would be a Sumatra .500 shooting 50+gr Bullets, those 2 Rifles than are very similar in Power and killing capability.

Who did your Dragon Claw tune? do you use an LDC? Who makes one for the Dragon Claw?

Will piatt Tuned My Claw, and she's a beast at 400+ FPE :) :)

I don't use an LDC on my Claw, she is obiously so efficient that she isn't that loud at all,...But Neil Clague makes very effective LDCs for all Koreans, he has all the thread mesures for every gun.
Title: Daystate Wolverine Emperor Pellet Head Size
Post by: PakProtector on November 03, 2012, 08:50:00 PM
hey-Hey!!!,
Had a Wolverine visit, so I got out my micrometer and checked a few pellets. Head size of .3001, maybe just a wee bit bigger, but after a gentle roll across the anvils they were one just like the other. I did not want to squeeze the head, or size it with the mics...was very careful about that.
cheers,
Douglas
