What is the better buy?
-
the 2240 has many more mods available even just from Crosman parts, but for putting 6-10 shots out quick the 357 is obviously faster, the 2240 is most likely more accurate, and more capable with add ons (most extreme would be a 24" barrel)
I haven't shot my 357 in years, but will be after I get home, I'll compare it to my 1377/22's
-
the 2240 - by far. ...and if it were me, i would get a 2400kt from the crosman custom shop (on their website). they come w/ steel breech, which can easily take a scope - and if you'll get the carbine, you can convert it to hpa later on. there are some examples on rane air website - just look under the airguns for sale tab (they are sold, but the photos are still there for viewers).

2240
not much to do with a 357
-
I have both pistols and there is absolutely no question that the 2240 is a better buy. Much more accurate out of the box and lots of mods possible. The 357 is fun, when you simply want to bang out lots of shots in a short time, and really probably better for plinking but it simply cannot be compared to the 2240 for value. Since both cost about the same, the 2240 is a no-brainer.

Definitely the 2240 . 22 cal. More fpe, and the mods are endless .
-
i dont know about the new 357's but the old ones break down a lot.on my early brown handled 357 the rubber piece that holds the barrel shut kept breaking.very frustrating
-
You didn't tell us what you will be using it for. There are many differences between the two and they have different uses.

No Doubt, ......the 2240
The 357 is junk, had one and sold it immediatly, I have two 2240s and really like those guns

The 357 is not "junk". It is very well made, and very accurate. I've even taken a few pigeons with mine.

IMO the 2240 is much better for a more serious shooter. If you are going to mod the 2240 best buy is the CCS2400kt. I have both don’t regret all the mods to the 2240. 2400kt put on a Leapers 4x32 AO and a TKO LDC thing is fantastic do not intend to make many mods only an HDD and an adjustable trigger sear from AOA. 2400 18 inch bbl TKO 6.5 inch make whole deal 24 inches.
357W I absolutely love just for fun shooting I use open sights and sometimes the Daisy red dot on my basement 10 meter range. In one year I have put > 35,000 rounds through the 357W. No mods just a ton of fun. 357W is not junk but hey it is inexpensive.

The 2240 is very capable, entirely moddabable (sp), and fun to shoot. Seems like an easy choice, unless you want a repeater.

I'll throw my hat in the ring....for a happy medium between both...and a few dollars more....
Get a Crosman 38t in .22. Put a WTB on classys.
Ask for a recently sealed, holding, good shooting version with steel cylinder and brass valve.
this will get close to 2240 energy numbers in .22, and gives 6 shots pretty rapidly. far faster being shot in single action mode than even a multi shot breech on the 2240
and when I space my shots out to around 30 seconds between and keep the gun clean and well lubed, it is as accurate at 15 yds than my 2400....
Great heft and feel.
You can get them in lesser cosmetic condition (but still functional) for 45 bucks....and a pristine one with box et al... for around 75.
GREAT little guns.
God bless,
Farmer

Looking at just getting a plinker, and somthing to bust a few munks up with.

Given that you will want to have the possibility of quick follow-up shots when trying to bag "munks" and that plinking is loads more fun when you can send lots of rounds at a can or whatever, I suggest the 357W. You get more bang for the buck with the 2240 but it is only a single shot and that can be an issue in the context of your intended uses (of course, you can put a multi-shot breech on it, but that is adding more bucks to the purchase).
-
Both are great for plinling and both are accurate. The 2240 gets about 4 fpe, and the 3576W gets about 3.5 fpe. Both should be plenty for chipmunks, but the 3576W offers up a faster follow up shot.
If you don't mind modding, then I suggest a 2240, those are tons of fun to mod, and I need to get one soon.

Iv got a few of the older 357's and they do have a few minor issues that you can deal with pretty easy, the main thing is the latch, the little rubber chunk that keeps the latch pushed up and tight wears out pretty quickly, some people stuff a peice of eraser in there and others put a metal spring, i put a spring in mine, as far as power goes there are a few tricks but the best way to get anything out of them is to upgrade from the 6inch to the 8inch barrel

The 2240 for small pest control, and the 357 for your basic plinking. :D

I have bought 3 2240's and have 2 357 with 8" barrels. I like them both. Depends what you expect out of a hand gun. Comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges. For sheer plinking fun I tend to go for semi-auto (blow back/single action semi auto) or full auto bb. They are all fun. john
