Title: Another Gun shop dust collector ... CROSMAN SSP-250
Post by: Motorhead on September 28, 2012, 05:23:20 PM
Went back to the hole in the wall shop I had scored the "94" Diana 34 TO-1 from a few months ago ....
Low and behold down in the corner of a case was a Like new with a manual CROSMAN Sport Silhouette Pistol SSP-250 with the .177cal barrel.

Looked it over well, minimal use Ever ! ... clean as a pin still having some Co2 in it so cycling and seal checked out just fine.
Loading latch not broken & nearly no scuffs on it what so ever.
Hang tag on trigger guard $89.50 ... so as before did that "Ya Know" dance offering $70 OTD green cash ... SOLD !!

Back home a good wipe down, some chamber oil in at Co2 port, pivots points etc, new Co2 cartilage and Pop Pop it went again.
Dug out some 7 GRN Diabolo basics and Chrono getting @520fps on Low and @570fps on High setting.

I'm stoked !! .... Going to build as a Carbine with  a Take-Off shrouded Regal .177 barrel ( Lathe work job ) and get a shoulder stock too.  Will share as project comes together  ;D

Update ...
Machined up a 15" .177 cal replacement barrel and fitted to rifle last night.  Velocity over the stock barrel up @ 45-50 fps sounding MUCH quieter being barrel has a modified factory shroud ( Take off from a Benji Regal NP ) *Barrel cut free from pivot block, chamber throat reworked and diameter turned down to fit receiver.  Shroud base altered to clear Co2 loading plug and Muzzle end opened up for greater back venting into shroud while also modifying cap as a more efficient air stripper. Shroud tube shortened to fit as needed.  ( Pic's coming ASAP )

Ok,
Barrel is a take off from a Benjamin Regal NP ( .177 cal ) sawed off from the pivot block to a length of @ 15" from pellet seating throat to threaded muzzle.
The FACTORY shroud/air stripper parts kept with barrel but the Shroud tube shortened up a tad.
* Cap end was modified by opening up the FOUR 1/8" vent holes to 1/4", Then back chamfering smile cuts to direct lead dust better into shroud tube.
End bored out to 5/16" and a piece of heavy wall K&S brass ground on end into a taper pressed in to be @ even with the side holes as a pellet stabilizing Air Stripper.
Factory shroud unscrews a bit moving forward so replacing 12grm Co2's is an easy affair ....

Leapers One Piece OFFSET mount holds the BSA Sweet 17 3x9x40 AO scope.
** Shoulder stock on order  ;)

Went ALL THE WAY into gun today and just cleaned things up and gave a proper lubing.
Fresh transfer seal and a slight alignment correction between valve/transfer passage & receiver to get passages to flow better.

Over the Chrono at @ 73* f shooting RWS Hobby 7 grains = 515 fps on Low and 655 fps on High threw the 15" Regal barrel.

 :D gettin there

Great score!  I just got one on ebay yesterday for $75.  This will be my second 250.  The first I bought new many years ago but has less than 100 rounds through it so is basically brand new.  These are great pistols and in my opinion much better than my 2240s. I converted my first 250 to .22 caliber and it's spitting out 14.3 grain Premiers at 500-520 fps.

Scott and Jim,

Since you resurrected this thread I will ask my question that I asked in a new post: https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=141473.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=141473.0)

Any performance mods to be done to the valve like opening up the transfer port?  I do need to align it like you did Scott.

Thanks

I replied in the newer thread last night. I'm awaiting the return of one of my SSP-250s from Rich Dudek after he has worked his magic. Then I will be able to compare the results with my other 250 which is completely stock except for the 18" .22 barrel I put on it.
