Title: Loading up the guns to go hoggin'!
Post by: Atchman2 on September 11, 2012, 03:58:54 PM
I've got a short range day planned to verify the zero on the BAR and to sight in the M4.  While I was at Academy today I decided to buy some buckshot and take along my Mossberg Turkey Thug shotgun too for when I jump them and they start running.

Toby the Wonder Pup saw me loading up guns and thought we were going to take him hunting today.  Bless his heart.   :(

Even the ammo wants to pose today!  :D

I have room for one more in the case and I'll likey take along an air rifle, probably the Techforce Jet.  I also thought about taking a .22 for plinking, but I don't think I'll have that much time for goofing off.

Good grief, bro!  Those are beautiful.  Can I go along just to carry your guns???

Make sure to take pics, Randy.  We can't wait to see what you come home with and be careful.

Well since a Rogue costs more than my AR OR my BAR, it is WAY down the list of stuff I want. :D I'm also taking to take down multiples of pigs, so the semi-auto PBs are the best choice.  One at a time don't get it when there are hundreds of hogs needed kilt. ;)

Thanks ED!  I was really struggling getting the .308 sighted in today.  I shot it so much the time before the danged mounts came loose from the rifle!  I had to use our old friend Blue Locktite and re-do the whole thing.  When I started shooting it was 6" high and 2" to the right!  I way expect too much from that rifle to be honest. It is for certain a 1 MOA rifle and would be better if I invested in better ammo, cleaned the barrel, let it cool more, etc.  1  MOA is plenty good for pigs. When my wife forgets how much money I spend on guns, I'm going to buy Leopold mounts and rings for it.  The Redfield Revenge scope is excellent!

I sighted it in 1" high at a hundred yards. It shoots about an inch low at close range.  I hope to get there early enough tomorrow to do one more quick reference shot.  I'm going to clean it up today since I've shot it so much without cleaning the barrel.

I also bought some of that new Winchester Hog Ammo.  MAN it shoots great in my AR! I used cheap ammo to get it close then finished off with the hog ammo.  It is more expensive ammo than I use for coyotes, but it seems to be well worth the price.  Since I'm only going to use it at short range I left it sighted in at a hundred yards. It isn't going to drop but an inch of so at 200 anyway.  I just have an inexpensive 3 x 9 x 50 Tasco on it, but it is shooting great! I took off the red dot and the iron sights.  I figured in the semi-darkness the scope will be better.

I'm so excited about going!  I still have to go to Academy to get another BIG cooler for hauling hogs, some cleaning supplies, and another box of Winchester Super X .308 ammo (just in case).  I need a new bore brush for the .308.  I have one for the AR.  I'm going to try to film everything! I have a helper this time to help me out because of my MS.  The MS has been acting up all week so I'm hoping that my excitement will overcome my disability.  The last time I had a great time, but then slept for two days after I got back. :D

We think he is a beagle and jack russel since he looks just like my JR. He also has the tail the curls up over his back like a terrier, but it is jumbo thick like a beagle.  He loves to go hunting though! I can't wait for the leaves to start falling. He and I both are having a hard time with squirrels being able to see them in the foliage.

Now you're talking. I hope you kill tons of them.

When you finish shoting all them hogs in Tennessee, come on down to Louisiana and shot some of ours.
