Title: My old Daisy
Post by: gandalfretlaw on September 06, 2012, 08:01:28 PM
I have a plane jane, no forestock Daisy BB gun with the plastic stock. I've shot it since the Christmas of 1976 (I was seven)? Me and Dad got in trouble for shooting it into a box in the living room.

It has worn down until it's dangerous. Yesterday I cocked it and then dry fired it, but it's extremely touchy and will fire if you jar it at all.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

See if you can clean the trigger unit....sometimes they get caked up with old oil & dirt and things don't seat the way they should.

Is there a way to disassemble the trigger or is it a spray and pray situation?

I took it apart and the sear appeared to be bent and worn and the trigger was also worn. I narrowed the surface on the trigger a bit and tried to bend the sear the other way. Cleaned and lubed it with some mineral oil. Put it together and it shoots like new. Not sure about the power. It didn't quite penetrate some tough cardboard, but I don't remember it ever being that powerful. I think I could shoot myself with it and not even have a bruise.

I guess it's technically a type of springer. Glad to have it shooting again. I'll have to try it at 10 yards and see how it compares. Too bad my Crosman M-1 is long gone.

Now this is something. I've been shooting it in the bedroom with a target blue taped to my bathrobe. Makes a decent backstop, but there's probably a bunch of BBs in front of the closet.

So I took it out back tonight and tried shooting it at ten yards. My normal targets were rather unsuitable at that range so I just aimed at a cardboard box. I aimed at a particular spot. I couldn't even see my shots land. I shot several times, then shot at a different spot a time or two. I then did some shooting with my Gamo using scope on the regular target sheet.

Later when I went up to the targets I found that I had shot a seven shot one inch group with the Daisy at ten yards. I dare say if I taped a scope to it I could use it for ten yard competition. This shooting was done with the stock Daisy fixed sights which are huge and clumsy.

Nice job getting your old childhood Daisy up and running again.  Its nice when you can do the work yourself and see the transformation before your eyes.  It really sounds like its accurate too from that 10 yard test group.  That's extremely solid for bbs.  Slap a scope on it and you are going to have yourself a match gun!  ;D

That was my thought, but about all I could do is zip tie it on. This is a classic red rider style Daisy, but without the foregrip. It's a 102 model 36, looks just like this one but sans box and not as clean:
