It was double boxed and both where beat up from a couple days on the UPS truck. This gun came from Paintball Discounters via Amazon.com. I would have not been to happy if I didn't pay only $69.90. Of course I normally order from PA (they don't have Mrods listed on amazon).

Now to get rid of all the junk I don't need.

Yes, the box says Crosman...made in CHINA.

Now it is ready to be fixed!
-

LOL, Only after meeting several of my tools.
I have a few modifications to do before she will be ready to go. Including getting rid of that little .25 caliber...
-
oh ok i was about to be like what tha if it had fallen apart
-
I would too.
A few numbers.
Valve poppet:
Stem .123 diameter
1.080 L (shaft)
1.508 OAL w/molding
Molding .334 od
Valve throat ID .515
Valve Port ID .138
Hammer spring
OAL 2.44
OD .478
Wire diameter .048
Active coils 11
That calculates to about 8.5 lbf/in
With a max load of 15.4 lbf

Wait a minute, did I read correctly? $69.90 for a .25 MRod???
:o

Yes, after $400 worth of gift cards. Someone works on the road to much and needed to trade in there hotel points. I do have my work cut out for me. I have a few power mods to do and maybe lighten up the stock. Of course I still have to fit the barrel and cut a mold for ammo.
-
Wow this is gonna get good!!!! Whatcha gonna make???? I can't wait to see what happens!!
-
the mrod uses a brass valve ?
-
congrats on the new shooter!
cant wait to see what you do to it!
-

No. It is aluminum. That would be an easy way to shed some weight if it where. It just has some odd finish on it. It isn't anodized. I suspect to make it easier to identify the .25 valve from the .177 and .22 valve during assembly. I have never pulled my .22 valve out but from what I have seen of it, it is unfinished aluminum.
Another difference is that the .25 has a flow through bolt.

Jody,
Wanna double your money?
HaaHaa
Keep us informed on the mods. I may have to make another trip to look over your shoulder.
LOL

It's a possibility. I have a couple of .308 blanks on hand. I already have a 6.8mm barrel rough profiled for a Marauder though.
My schedule is hectic right now. I hope to have time to work on this some Friday or Monday. Right now I'm going to hit the shower and then the sack as I've been working all day then went hunting and just got in.
Hopefully I'll find the secret to unlocking some real power out of this system.
Dave, as always, you are welcome anytime.
-
Bad news. The .25 Mrod breech is set up for a .495 OD barrel versus the .22 which takes a .435 OD barrel.
This means I have a 6.8mm barrel that can only be fit to a .22 Mrod or Disco. Unless I want to make another breech.
The good news is that I do not have to bore out the breech to fit a .308 barrel.
Decision time!
-
Made in China???? $69.90????? Gun all in pieces????? ;D
Can't wait to see the creation!
-
I would go for the .308 for sure since it fits your breech.
-
I would go for the .308 for sure since it fits your breech.
I am starting to think you want to see a .308 Mrod. While there are ways to put material back on to the 6.8mm barrel (or I could turn down the other blank I have) i think I will turn down a .308 blank tomorrow. Ammo is easier to come by too.
-
Yeah, a .308 would be awesome for an M-rod.
-
Well here you go.
Opening up the guage port.
Befor.

During.

After.

The .25 valve does not have a "sleeve" it is machined in. So I used my lathe to open it up. Here is the result.

Here is the .308 barrel blank being turned down.

I still have a ways to go on the barrel. At this point I will leave it as a heavy barrel. In the future I may either flute it or turn it down to install the shroud.

Nice work. ;)
-
You got some awesome tools to work with there!!
-
Anyone else working this Labor day? I must confess...it is a labor of love!
Getting closer.

Ever wonder how to get just the guage adapter out to replace an oring someone tore on instillation.
First of all I prefer to install the valve and airguage adapter from the fill end of the tube. Less holes to tear orings on.
First you push the adapter forward to clear the gauge hole.
Next drop a string through the adapter (you can see it in the above picture ready to be fished through). Then Fish it out.
Tie something bigger on and stuff it in the tube, like so. I used a rag.
Now pull.
Ker plunk,
(http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y243/Rescue35/IMAG0113.jpg)
Don't do this and you will not have to do the above.

A quick test fit before fixing a busted oring.

Great Thread. ;)

This is what a heavy barrel .308 Marauder looks like. She is holding pressure and other than a little bolt work she is ready to go. I will get the bolt finished up and I should have her slinging lead by next weekend.
-
Good heavens this is interesting!!!!!!!!!! great thread!!!!
-
WOW, you are making quick work of this. I was expecting all these mods to take weeks and weeks.
Great work, thanks for sharing the progress with all of us:)

Interesting bolt design. Kind of looks like a disco bolt. I would like to see the cut out where the air passage is.
-
The bolt is steel with an aluminum handle. It is not a flow through. Simply a reduced nose that I left a little oversize...because it is easier to take metal off than putt it on.
I was tring to keep it simple. I was off about 10 degrees on the handle clocking, lol.

Update with Crony results.
