Title: beeman R1 soft tune?
Post by: chito on August 25, 2012, 08:00:08 AM
Just wondering if anybody has ever put a softer spring in the R1? Since the R1 is heavier than some of the other hw's I thought it might make a more plessant plinker.  Maybe make the rifle less hold sensitive. Maybe a spring with the power of the R9 would be cool in something heavy like the R1. I'm not talking as low as a FAC spring. Just something a little less.

I had a R1 with a tired spring that shot 15 fpe in .177... very pleasant to shoot. A customer resprung his with a sub FAC spring and that is a plinkers dream... No recoil, like an R7...

Yeah thats what I was leaning towards. Something that acts more like an R7. R1's are suppose to be around a 17-18 ft lbs rifle. But I was thinking of bringing it dow to 14-15 ftlbs level. The rifle would be used more for plinking. Yet still have enough power to kill a bunny at 35yds when one ever pops up. Anybody know were I could get a spring to make it happen? Seems like everyone just makes power tune kits.

I detuned a few of my rifles for the same purpose....I had John in PA, tuner, cut down the PG2 Vortek springs and adjust the tophat etc to achieve the smooth, reduced recoil effect........

It definately assisted.....it also had the added benefit of quieting the gun to be neighbor friendly!

yes, they are very quiet like that. But i would search for a UK sub FAC spring and go with that. it will definitely finish of a rabbit at 35 yards. i hunt rabbits pass that with a AA s200 shooting 10.7 fpe with 8.44 jsb.

I'm currently shooting an R7 with 5fpe. It recoils about as much as my FWB 65mkII match pistol.
BTW, the match pistol is recoilless ;)
I think my Diana 6G match pistol is louder than the R7 ;D

i got my R7 spitting jsb RS 7.33 at 680 fps... its a freak. But it is still smooth. I had a .20 caliber R7... now that was smooth.

 OH Niko,
Here we go with the r7/hw30 recoil spiel again.......Niko , I keep tellin ya these two AG's  are a danger to anyone who puts one to the shoulder......
you may in fact incur great harm .........Such as..
                                                                             Splittin a Gut  from laughter.
You may even swallow your own face from sporting such a wide grin after firing one of these.

On a more seriuos note.  Tom at Vortek will clip springs for you ....just email him in advance and work it out.
Tom did one for my 50.

He said...Crow Magnum.

Sorry guys but an R7 is not what I want. I was think of an R1 with a R9 spring. I like the idea of contacting vortek to get the spring cut.

or you could just cut your spring and make it the way you want it! the R9 spring wont fit or work well due to the DIA would be to sloppy inside the piston and the guide spring combo wont match, the R1 has a huge spring in it! Id/Od and wire DIA so unless you do a custom set up or do it youeself I'd do what Pete suggest's or find somebody to build what your looking for just my 2ct :P
