Anyone put a scope on one. I was told by PA that the rail is for diopter only and you can't mount a scope. Is this true?

I believe you can mount a regular scope on the HW35 rails, using a basic 11mm dovetail scope mount. The rail might be shorter than some other guns, making it a bit less adjustable for preference, but it should work. However, if you have an older, late 60's or earlier model, there's a chance it has wider dove tail rails, size 13mm, which will take a special mount. I've looked at PA for one that size before, and they don't seem to stock them. Maybe there are other sources out there for that larger size. I've never looked elsewhere.
Check your gun to see what you have for scope rails. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I had some 11mm mounts that wouldn't fit so I ordered the 13mm but still a no-go.

Sorry the 13mm scope mount idea didn't help. I wonder if its maybe a rarer 14mm size or something instead? Anyway, check out this vintage airgun forum. The members there thrive on the older guns and restoring them and such. Here's a link:
