Title: QB78 .177 from Flying Dragon, preliminary review
Post by: Ahab on July 28, 2012, 01:22:35 PM
Got it a few days ago. Here's my first impressions. Packing was good. Metal has brushed and blued finish. Fit appears good. Machining is OK but not German like. Wood is stained dark and seems well finished but simple, should look great with a wax job. Gun is well balanced and I like the weight, feels like my Disco (no scope yet). Put several dry patches through the barrel, had minimal black residue and they went very smoothly. Shined an LED in the breech and sighted down the bore from the muzzle, the rifling appeared sharp and even. Now comes the truth. Went out to my 10 meter range, inserted a 7.8gr Superdome and sighted in on a nice 6" cactus pad. Crack! and a hole appeared in the center of of the pad. WoW, I really wasn't expecting that as I just wanted to see how the trigger felt. Maybe a lucky shot so another 4 pellets go down range and group just over an inch. (this is off hand with a gun just out of the box, open sights and 72 year old eyes) Mike had to work some magic on this single stage trigger, it's phenomenal and I won't change a thing. The owners manual say's the gun should produce .5" groups CTC at 10 meters (32.8') and I believe it. I will put a scope on it and continue this review at a later date with pictures.  ;D ;D ;D

Looking forward to further review. You did not mention what you had Mike do for you with the QB-78.

Bought it with his standard touch. Did not ask for anything special.

Did you ever get to shoot it?  I have one on order from Mike as well.

Run a wet patch or 2 through it and see what comes out!
I put a dry patch or 2 through my 79 and also only got a minimal amount of black out, then I decided to run a wet patch through, ended up running through 6 wet patches before the gunk started clearing up!

Oh yes, it's shooting 3/4" groups @ 30 yards. I put a 4x32 Centerpoint on it.
