Title: my 2 year review stoeger x10 177
Post by: one_shot on June 03, 2012, 12:06:21 AM
below is a post i made last year about my stoeger x10.

1 year ago i was on a quest to find the best budget springer that money could buy.
when i say budget....under $150.
my goals were accuracy, power, ease of use, smoothness, and dependability.....177 caliber

i bought a beeman rs2,rugger airhawk,hammerli x2,gamo big cat,stoeger x10,crosman phantom.

out of all those guns only 2 meet all my requirements.they were all under $150,but not all meet my demands of accuracy, power, ease of use, smoothness, and dependability.
i picked up atleast 9 different popular name brand rounds from pa,that way i could thouroughly test each gun.
also picked up 6,000 rounds of cphp's to use strictly for breakin of each rifle.

to make a long story short, without going into great detail about each round fired from each gun,the breakin process.
here are the 2 winners, but one exceeds the other.

now when i target shoot in the back yard,i shoot 3-500 rounds in 1 sitting, taking no breaks...shot after shot.torture for any airgun.

the $80 crosman phantom meet every requirement.
i highly reccomend the crosman phantom for anyone looking for a great all purpose gun.my phantom was averaging 960 with 7.9 grain cphp's after 2000 rounds fired.i eventually hit 2500 rounds and gave the gun to my father....still going strong.ive dropped a good sized rabbit from 60 yards with my phantom,my brother took out a 80 yard bunny with his phantom,a clean humane kill with 1 shot to the fusebox.

now my top choice!

my stoeger x10 177 is the most accurate airgun i own period.
more accurate than my disco .22.
i can pull of 60 yard headshots on small birds all day shooting cheap cphp's.

the airgunone challenge....200 out of 200 possible score, when the gun only had 300 rounds through it...i competed and shot a 199 out of 200.
with a $120 bone stock under-dog spitting out dirt cheap rounds.
i can take off a bee's head from upto 20 yards.....the examples go on.
the only modified part is my own design, front exhaust air stripper.
old beat up winchester 4x32 ao scope....the cross hairs broke 1 year ago while being used on my titan gp .22.
this gun is all stock,1 hole shooter all day,cold...hot....day....night.its my favorite gun in my cabinet.

over 3500 rounds fired,920 fps average with cphp's,still smooth, nice trigger....pleasure to shoot anytime!
my brother has a mike brown tuned x10,i put his x10 up against my x10,the tuned x10 couldnt touch my x10 in the accuracy dept.
but it beat me in smoothness of shot cycle, and twang.but his fps average was only 815.maybe his tuned gun will get better after a few hundred more rounds.
my friend picked up a x10,broke the spring after 2500 rounds, another friend picked up an x10,hes just as impressed as i am,just as accurate.
sometimes you get a bad one....just like any other product.
this guns no old rws 34,but i think its capable of out shooting a 34 in the right hands.

anyway....i thank you stoeger arms.

now my present day thoughts!
my x10 has been parked for about 8 mths, today i dusted her off.
she dieseled for 3 shots.
i made a statement about this gun possibly out shooting a rws 34.....well i happen to own a 2006 rws 34 .22 cal,with the 8 land barrel,200 rounds fired.
today at 10 yards, both guns ran the same scope.both guns shooting cphp's.
i know its hard to compare groups of different calibers....but my stoeger is more accurate.

i was shooting beer bottle caps,10 caps/shots per gun.
9 out of 10 caps were center shots with the x10
7 out 10 shots were center shots with the rws 34

in the rws's defence....i dont think i have the pellet the gun likes, cphp's fit really tight in the 34.
and the 34 isnt broke in just yet.

Time to upgrade the old x10,modded a titan stock for the x10,may drop in the nitro piston aswell.
Shes still hitting hard and accurate.
