I finally "pulled the trigger" on this purchase. I got the basic gun, except with a 24" barrel, .22 caliber.
Plans I have for it include:
Converting to PCP ASAP -- I like the look of the MA2260 pcp Hunter Model 19, as seen here http://www.mountainaircustomairguns.com/model_19.htm (http://www.mountainaircustomairguns.com/model_19.htm),
but I want to do it myself and learn more about the gun along the way.
I also plan on a Tippman 98 shoulder stock, 6.5" TKO, and probably a Leaper's bug-buster scope.
I know I'll need new barrel bands, and they seem like common items from custom accessory shops like Mellon Air.
As to bulking this one, I'm thinking that Bryan and Associates MaxFlow and Bulk fill option is probably a good way to go.
I'm sure I'll have more questions as this project progresses.
Any thoughts, suggestions, bad ideas I should avoid?
-
Congrats. I got a .22 caliber with the 14.6" barrel a couple years ago. It is a good little shooter. The only things I did was touch up the crown and lightly polish the trigger.
Recently I cut the stock down so it would better fit my son. It's his close range hunter now.
24" barrel with a 6.5" tko might make it a bit of a long gun but if you are not concerned with having it as a compact carbine it should make a great powerful rig.
-
for plinking the 24in barrel with tko isnt to bad, but for huntering a 18in barrel would be best to keep it short and compact

Thanks for the encouragement!
Mike, what mods are you making to yours to go PCP?
I'm leaning toward 2260 tube + HiPac
-
im running all disco internals, the tube, valve, fill adapter etc are all off a disco. using the 2400kt's steel breech, 17in barrel, trigger group and a 7.5tko ldc.
altho the valve has had some work and is only about 50% crosman now, im using a crosman challenger hammer and challenger strike since it is adjustable. just had to have the lip machined into it to clear the breech screw. so i can adjust hammer throw, hammer spring, power adjuster to fine tune it. i got a great deal on a cothran ss roller trigger for 20 bucks shipped so thats my trigger upgrade. i wish i could post some pictures but i have been asked not to untill its finished and then the info and spec's, builder and its performance numbers will all be posted..
ive been pondering ordering a prod trigger setup for my carbine and then rebuilding my 2400kt the stock 2250 engraved tube, stock trigger group with the ss trigger, put a 14in barrel with a 7.5 tko ldc, boss valve, airtube extension and bulk fill co2 since its so quite over hpa for backyard plinking. then i want to order 2 ccs guns one for my dad and one for my uncle have the engraving done, some cera kote done, throw in a little tweaking and finding the best pellet for them so we can shoot at the lake house. but of course im the one with really sweet hpa airguns, so i cant give them something nicer then what i have
-
My 2400kt just arrived yesterday, and it got put thru some small paces today. It should be roughly identical to yours.
Be patient, Crosman seems a little backlogged right now. But they DID get it shipped out 3 weeks and a day after I ordered it.
The gun looked ok. I ordered manual sights....the last one I got was sent back for a couple issues, one of which was a canted front sight. Badly canted.
Guess what? The new one has the SAME issue. Canted to the point of not being useable in its current configuration. Will need some work. HMMMMm.
Well, outside of my disbelief that I could order 2 CUSTOM guns with the exact same issue, and they would make it thru CUSTOM QC......I am quite stunned with the gun itself.
I placed a cheap set of rings and a good ole Leapers 3x9 mildot on it. Took about 5 shots to have it sighted in at 10 yds, and proceeded to place most of the pellets thru the same hole for around 10 more shots. VERY impressive accuracy. Backed the target up to 20 and kept all the holes at a dime size, with a few fliers caused by the redneck behind the gun. Made a couple more scope adjustments, and then picked off a bird. These birds have been sitting on my vehicle mirrors, and fighting themselves in the mirrors. Scratching them up, and covering the doors of the cars in bird poop. Bird went down at around 25 yds....
Anyway, I guess around 35 shots, it started to drop off. Changed carts, and took a couple more shots. Started the morning chores, and kept the gun out. It was only ~75 degrees today, so perfect co2 weather.
Got another bird just past lunch. Switched pellets and re-zeroed scope. Took another bird at about 30 yds, and then pellets started to drop off around 10 shots later.
the third cart is in it now. Got off around 15 shots, and one more bird at 20. Not a bad days tally on the little "doo-doo bandits" today. Gun has less than 85 shots on it, and has 4 birds under its belt.
I too, got the 24 inch bbl. it is strange to me....I really dont care for the looks of this gun at all.......but it is a darn good shooter with NO work yet. Balances a little far forward, but this can be remedied, especially since the gun feels like it weighs all of 4 pounds. Surprisingly quiet with the 24 inch bbl.
I was all set to start modding it today. But I find myself in the strange place of seeing what it can do stock.
For sure, the trigger shoe helps. Hope you got that in your order. STill, it is a Crosman trigger.
The gun is definitely in order of 2 things.....trigger group just needs smoothed for now. Pull weight is not bad...and almost has a 2 stage feel. It IS very predictable. So the group will definitely get a good polishing.
The bolt will be extended. This is almost always beneficial.
I am thinking the valve will get a good POLISHING only for now. I just want to see what this gun will do with everything smoothed out and the bolt extended for now. I think I am getting a GOOD shot count per cart. Superdomes will penetrate a steel can top at 30yds, so power is not bad.
The 24 inch bbl makes the gun just a hair over the length of my steroid benji, so not at all LONG in terms of airguns in general. I had intentions of cutting it back to 20 inches, but like this "free" power I am getting.
I like where the shot count seems to be at, and will count shots when I chrony.
Overall, the gun has LOADS of potential.
Hope yours gets out soon, and God bless,
Farmer

congrates, my 2240 carbine is a great gun. I have a 10" barrel and hipac on mine as well as the disco hammer spring and a mellon RVA/ stock adaptor. gun has no issues taking grey squirrels at 25yds with 18 grain exacts. This gun has been through a ton of pesting and hunting over the years.

Hey sawtoothscream, have you posted any pics of yours? I saw the specs in your signature. I'd like to see it.
VAFarmer, I can hardly wait to get mine and 3 weeks is less than half of the 6-8 I was told to expect. It'd be great to have it before July 4 holiday. I'll let you know what my front sight looks like, but it is coming off anyway.
mustangmike, I am definitely intrigued by your teaser. Any idea as to how soon you'll have it together?
-
vafarmer i got my 2400kt and the front sight was canted as well but they just push on so you can turn them. i took mine off and put on the tko but i did turn it to the right posision befor i was able to get the tko.
sam i think your going to love the custom ,you find the right pellet and they are supper accurate with mine it shoots just about every pellet i own within a 1/4 inch of each other and thats from 7.9 cphp's to jsb 10.33 grain pellets.....dave

ill snap a pic in a little. I really like the set up with the smaller barrel. looks kinda funny with the stock but im all about teh end results :)
-
heres the main hunting set up, in the house ill use a tko instead of the mellon. sometimes ill bring it back to pistol form as well if I want a challenge.

sawtoothscream -- NICE ONE! What performance differences to you see between the TKO and the air stripper?
muppitt, I'm chomping at the bit to test a variety of ammo in mine.

the guy building my carbine has a lot on his plate, so i tell him everytime we talk that im in no rush and personal matters need to be delt with before being worried about my carbine. i do know that as of now it is in shooting condition. ive seen some of the strings that have been shot across the chrony of it. the thing is due to the power level im after and the limitied air supply of a disco tube cut down to a carbine tube its going to require some serious tuning to get the shots i want at the power i want
-
I got mine a couple of months ago and I'm lovin it. It's a 18 inch barrel with a 7.5 inch TKO, trigger job, Hipac and waiting a Mellon air bolt and RVA....:)

shoots great with both, the tko just makes it extremely quiet and the mellon has a pop to it. I just dont like hunting with the TKO or carrying the gun around with it on.

Last night I checked the status of my order. I was disappointed to see that it was completed, but not shipped. I figured it had to be shipping soon, so I went ahead and ordered some of the aftermarket upgrades I'll be using to modify it. First on the list was a 6.5" TKO, then on to MellonAir for a SS Long Probe bolt, and last but not least, Bryan and Associates for a BOSS valve and a trigger shoe.
This morning I checked my email before starting my coffee. Good thing, too. I had a message from Crosman; my CCS 2400KT has shipped! (I'll definitely be brewing decaf!)
Something tells me that this will be a very long week...
-
sam my 2400 showed up befor crosman said it was ever shiped but it had been completed for a cweek or so anyway. had mine for a couple months now and love it its touching pellets at 20 yards again i just have a problem with the velocity going up and down but its not efecting the poi at all just that i'm not getting the kill shot all the time.........dave
-
long probe bolts dont really add power, but they do have a direct effect on the extreme speed and standard deveation tighting those up some.
as an update on my carbine, she is pretty much done and ready to be shipped out. i think were going over 1 or 2 more things i think so id expect it either on its way to me in the next few weeks or on its way to have the finish applied. once the finsih is applied and i get to spend a month or so shooting her she is being packaged up and sent off to another gta member for a review of it i guess you could say... so my little ccs carbine is going to be going on tour lol
-
I got the long probe bolt because of some of the pellets I have with long skirts: Super-H points, Predators, and Crow Mags. I know the numbers probably won't be great with CO2 (especially with 18.2 gr Crow Mag), but this gun will get HPA eventually. Probably sooner rather than later. I'm already looking into a BNM breech, to shroud or not to shroud is my biggest question. Guess I'll see what the TKO does first.
Mike, what you describe sounds similar to what I want to do with mine. Keep us posted.
-
if you want to go pcp and make more then 30fpe ditch the tko and go full shrouded. eventually my carbine will be full shrouded
tko is good for co2 and a up to 30fpe, plus even if you go fully shrouded with the breech setup the tko gives you another reason to build a new gun or buy a disco
this might get a little more attention in the pcp co2 gate you can get a better idea of different ways to build the carbine up. figure i will go ahead and move it over..
-
My thoughts exactly. I just can't do it all at once. I'll make incremental upgrades, and as new improvements come along, the pieces removed will go into the next gun.
It WILL be PCP, eventually.
I'm already looking for a cheap SCUBA tank. I'm open water certified, so I won't have any trouble getting the tank filled at the local dive shop.
I just got to squeeze my honey-do list for a little extra $$$, so I can get those disco parts -- and then go disco double.
Argh! Does it ever end? I could mod this thing forever...
But seriously, is there a more sane addiction?
Can't wait to see your shiny new baby.
-
Congrats Sam! You will need to post a picture as soon as you get it!
-
I'll do that. Mine is gonna be plain-jane at first, all the other mods are just on the wish list for now. However, I did pick up a used Disco recently. Mods galore wish list for that one, too.
BTW Mike, I put that Trail NP into a Summit stock. I'll post pics in the Crosman gate. Looks great, but definitely handles differently now. I am so used to a thumb-hole sporter that a straight stock feels weird.
-
UPS delivered today! Shot two carts through her trying to sight in an old 4x32 BSA scope. I'm in the 9 ring @ 25 yards and starting to group pretty good with CPHPs, need to try some JSBs.
Trigger pull from the factory is HEAVY! I checked the mailbox and my BOSS valve and trigger shoe had arrived today too. So with fewer than 100 shots, the modding began. BOSS valve installed. Trigger spring adjusted while the stock was off. Trigger shoe installed. Took too long. No more daylight. Dang it! Oh well, forecast is for good weather tomorrow.
No factory rear sights, by design. Front sight post removed. I can hardly wait for that TKO.
Pictures will follow...
-
If you have a garage go make a make shift pellet trap and shoot in the garage. Plus its pretty easy to hit cans at 10 to 15 yards with no sight and only sighting down the barrel

Here she is:

And she may well be the most accurate Crosman I own:
Don't ask how many shots; I was having so much fun I lost count. Had to be 20+.
Those were 13.43gr JSBs @ 12 yds. Why 12 yds? I measured after I setup and shot.
Trigger shoe and BOSS valve installed, BSA 4x32 on see-thru mounts, TKO and MA long-probe bolt still en route. Front sight post removed.
-
Congratulations Sam, looks like you got a good one ! 8)
-
Its keeper fore sure, great groups
-
Those are nice! I need to pick one up but I can never get the courage to pull the trigger < no pun intended. I may have to now! Congrats Sam! BTW- Great groupings too!
-
I've got to go bulk-fill soon -- I'm running through CO2 carts in a hurry!

Mike if you are just punching paper, go .177 on this one, and you probably don't need the 24" barrel. My plan is to turn this gun into a small game hunter, and while .177 may be sufficient for that purpose I wanted .22 for additional stopping power that comes with greater mass. I wanted the longer barrel to squeeze as much power as possible out of the propellant.
Its keeper fore sure, great groups
Did I mention that this was unsupported? No bench rest and no bag! I love it!
-
Sam,
Wal Mart has the 40 count carts free shipping to store for 20 bucks. Pick up in store.
50 cents a cart, not bad.
Is that an 18 or 24 inch bbl?
I am interested to see what your numbers are like on the B&A BOSS......
God bless,
Farmer
-
Hey Farmer,
Thanks for the tip. It is a 24" barrel.
I did not collect any data before I changed the valve. I had ordered the BOSS while I was waiting on the gun to arrive. They showed up on the same day. I changed the valve after only 2 carts. I will get some numbers in the next couple of days, but I don't have a point of reference for "unmodded".
-
TKO arrived yesterday. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! She is super quiet now!
