Title: HW30 owners
Post by: s10gto on April 09, 2012, 08:13:54 AM
Hello everyone. Maccari has hw30's for a great price. What do you think of yours? What is real world FPS? I know its got the Rekord trigger so not worried there. Do to the fact this is a lower power springer I thought it maybe perfect for a leadfree gun set-up. Any thoughts appreicated. :D  Thanks Dustin

Dustin I had one but it didn't shoot real fast out of the box with the right tune work you could get in the low to mid 6's out of one their a nice gun if you do all of the necessary work to them like the cocking slot in cert JMO :P

Yup thought of the cocking slot insert. Thats a must. Was thinking to de-tune a rifle (HW perfered) to shoot leadfree pellets due to most are very light. I then saw JM's HW30's for $279. Figure I would spent atleast that on a used HW.

What do you think about shooting paintballs @ 40 yards using 6-7 grain?

Love my .20 HW30 ! It will stay with me until I can no longer shoot, then passed on to my son. I say go for it. You will love the trigger.

You won't regret getting one. Great to keep you shooting inside during winter and fun outside plinking. With a JM kit I was getting 603 with JSB RS the last time I used the chrony. Not a powerhouse but a joy to shoot.

I like my low powered rifles.
Much easier and pleasant to shoot a LOT.

I shoot my R7 at least 2x more often than any other higher powered airgun.

Accurate, reliable, easy to strip down and enough power for any task inside of 30 yards.

Mine does about 590 with JSB exacts.

It's my sweetheart.........so small, cute, accurate yet effective....small game...bird, squirrel, rabbit within 25 yds.....and quiet so the neighbors don't know what's cooking.......

Full vote here!

the kodiak pellet is deadly to 35-38 yrds. head or chest shot.

I love my H30s Deluxe. 630fps with JSB Exact. 580fps with CPHP.  I was suprised to see that the JSBs were faster as they are slightly heavier.

I prefer the R7 stock over the HW30 stock.  Of course, that's just aesthetics.  With that said, I shoot my R7 a lot more than my HW30 because it feels better to me, looks better too. My HW30 is tuned and the trigger was switched out to the Rekord trigger, and even so, I still shoot my stock R7 more.  I'm sure you may already know, but the HW30 and the HW30s are not the same air rifle.  The HW30s comes with the Rekord trigger and the HW30 does not.

You've heard this before.....you think this is a light duty, low risk don't worry hobby pellet gun..........

A little story about yesterday......had my little HW30s 177 out for paper punching at 22 yds using CPHP. All was wonderful.....UNTIL....I thought of the brainy idea of hitting a golf ball I set up in front of my duct tape trap. Well.....I had forgotten all the warnings of similar escapades from my comrades. One shot....dead middle....as I watched the ball fall of its perch...I hear near my ear behind my head a loud whack...as the bellet turned around.....132 feet later and smacked straight back at the fence behind my head. Lesson learned....and that's with a muzzle velocity of only 575.

Thank you! That is a heck of a deal from AOA. A little too used for my liking but a great deal no doubt.

Curious whats the deal with the HW50s? Is this a little larger 30. I like the fact it does HW30 .177 FPS but in .22 cal. As far as leadfree pellets go there is a little more in .22. Thanks

The 50s is in between the 30' and the HW95 I had one of those as well I liked it better than my R7 allot more power allot flatter shooting and just as accurate! but it too suffers from the cocking arm rubbing the tube so the in cert is a must on those guns as well, I had a .177cal and it was super accurate at 30yds I could put a pellet in the eye of a nutter every shot at that distance! it av ed 750fps with 7.9gr CPHP's IMO its a better choice than the R7 for longer distance shooting but then again a detuned R9 will achieve the same goals with out the cocking arm issues and can always be powered back up, I tuned one of my R9's down to 650fps butter smooth to shoot and accurate as all get out, head shot on sparrows at 30yds is a no brain-er LOL!!!!! :P

Thanks Mark! I just may do the 50 now. I mostly shoot at 40 yards so a little more power is good. Looks still low enough power to shoot the lighter stuff and a little nicer stock too.

Isn't help spending someone elses money so much fun.  :D

I don't think you can go wrong with the HW30 especially for under $300.  However I think the HW30s (with the 'S') comes with the Rekord trigger, so make sure you get that one.

Dustin I agree! I knocked a crow off at 40yds with the 50's I had with a good body shot! he flu about 30yds and landed in a tree with his wings spread out stuck between 2 limbs and hung there for a few mons before the wind finally blew him out of there! :P

Been thinking about picking one up for my daughter. My girlfriend is spoiled with my FWB's do there's no turning back for her. I think I ef'd on that situation. But my baby girl really needs a 'good' gun to plink with her dad on weekend afternoons.

@tjk
Watch the LoP.
The HW30/R7 is still an adult size rifle.  My R7 has a 14" LoP.
If you daughter is less than 5'6", you may have to shorten the stock.
I'm 5'4" and my best fitting rifles have a LoP of about 12".
