Title: Took out the new condor.
Post by: Onebaddj on March 31, 2012, 11:23:11 PM
So with the wife on a rampage and beautiful weather it was a perfect day to take out the new condor and get it sighted in adn do some testing and I am still amazed! I pumped it up to 2850 then set the power wheel at 8/8 and loaded up the Eun Jin 28 gr pellets. !st target was at 60 yards. I laser boresighted at 4 in low at 14 yards with is roughly the center of the scope to the center of the bore. At 60 yds I had a 2x8 with a gamo 25 ft qual target and every shot shook the tree it was leaned against. It was only about 2-3 in diamter but every shot I knew I hit the board cause it would shake it. lol Well It hit about a ft low so I retreived the target and set it up at 26 yards in another tree. Every shot went clean through. 40 clicks up and a few right windage adn she was on with the 28 gr. So back to 60. ANd I chased the bull for a while. then fired up the 25 gr JSB's and the 32 gr Eun jin. Then JSB's were close to on at 60 adn the 32 were low but a tight group. SO out to 110 yds I went. I found a side of a boat out there that was about 1/4 in fiberglass adn put a target on it adn set another 2x8 behind it just in case and set up. Filled up the air tank and let it rip. 25 gr JSB smacked the baot side with authority! I shot a 5 shot group with nothing on the 6 in target so Down I go and they are about 12 in low. only 12 in of drop with a 25 gr pellet at 110 yds! Thats hilarious! I love it! I gave it 2 dot of correction and BANG! on target. I shot a 5 shot group and 1 fell about 1/2 in below the target. I shot the 32's next and they were off target so I shot another 5 shot group and they were tight but low. The 28 gr were not so good. Dont know why but the 25 jsb and 32 eu jin were the best 2. I was also blowing holes in the 1/4 fiber glass at 110 yds with it set at 8/8! It go's up to 15/12 I think. I am about 1/2 power. This condor is f ing awesome! It was about 90 with a nice 10 mph wind no real gusts. Beautiful day for shooting. After several shots out at 110 I realed it in to 25 to see what the 25 jsb and 32 eunjin would do and man I was impressed. Both groups were under 1/2 in and blew through the 2x8. This gun is awesome! No other way  too describe it. Just awesome! Get me some practice with it and get everything dialed in adn I thhink I can pull off some cool long range shots. Im happy with my 1st day. The 1st pic is the 32 gr 5 shot group, 2nd is the 25 jsb group, 3rd is the 110 yd 25 gr jsb, 4th & 5th are whats left of the pellets from thhe 110 shots. These are the ones from the tail end of the groups that I could find.

If a condors on your list bump it up to the next one on the list. Its one hechk of a shooter!

I'm glad your new gun is working out well for you. That's some good shooting on your part too. Good luck with the rampaging wife!  :-\

Its some not so good groups but its the 1st time i took it out, it was hot, made adjustments every 3-4 shots. Typical first trip out. Dont know what ammo, what tange, what pressure its crazy fun figuring it all out.  Like a real brain teaser with all the variables.

Now that ive norrowed it down to the 2 pellets and got all the adjustments out of the way with the shoulded stock and the eye releif and stuff next time i head out it should be a good test of what she can do besides just blow holes in things from a long way away.

Glad you like yours.  The Condor is a good piece of kit!  The accuracy can be amazing at very long ranges.

The Air Force platform whether a Talon or Condor is an accurate, powerful gun and really fun to shoot. My Talon P with a twelve inch, .25 barrel is as accurate a gun as I'll ever need for my means. I don't hunt or shoot much beyond 50 yards and it hits where I put the cross-hairs. Mine is a compact and powerful package that for my purposes needs absolutely no modifications mechanically which will be to my benefit and the gun should last me a long, long time with just routine maintenance. If you love your Condor as I do my Talon P, resist the temptation to muck it up with super hammers and o-rings and valve jobs; for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction and these guns perform well in their stock configuration. Mod the heck out of it and you'll always be soaking more money into it as things break and fly apart. I'm glad to hear of your experience with your new Condor; there aren't that many posts here on the Air Force guns.

With easter coming up and 4 days off hopefully ill be able to get out one of those days to redo those groups. I agree the 110 yd will get tighter just had to get her all adjusted and by then it was warm out. Not too much shade under mesquite trees. Those 3 in thorns just cant block much sun. Lol so was backing in the sun for over an hour before i shot that group. Just might have to do some full power shots and take the video camera.

Nice DJ,Very Nice! You have to own one to appreciate the Condor,But once you do,you'll never be without one IMO. I am still Amazed after 2 years and it never stops. Once you find the pellet she like she'll pretty much put them there every time.

These rifles seem to like 950 to a max of 1025 with real heavy pellets like the Eunjins, but if your lucky she'll like 2 or three as mine favors the 35.8 Eunjins,,but shoot's the 31.02 barracuda's simply Awesome as well.I've stretched this one out to 75 and she still shoots well, but I find after that she opens up a bit.Now a nice calm day makes a difference though.
Now,we have to have some pics too DJ as I always look forward to the pics,(especially of such a Fine Rifle),lol.

Mike,I don't quite understand the Quote,''Turn up the Power to close the group'' as with mine it doesn't make much difference,(but that may be different in .22 cal). Which Caliber Condor do you have, and which Pellet do you find works well at 100 yards? I've tried Preds,EJ's,Cuda's and Crow mags, but once I get past 75 yards they seem to open up a bit.

Thanks

i dont own a condor yet, i figured with the groups opening up and dj being at i think he said half power that upping the power and testing to see if the groups tighten up a little with more power

Mike the key word is yet! You dont own one yet. Lol stop waiting! They are super fun! Hows that help the its for one?

I figured cranking up the power would flatten the trajactory a little more which is really unbeleivable to begin with and might help get the pellets to the target faster allowing less time to be affected by wind. That was kind of my thought process. But ive been a springer guy and have concentrated primarily on hold and smoothing out the shot cycle. The whole super power pcp is new but awesome and spinning me out of control in a new and funner direction!

So does my theory make sense to others? Heavy pellet flying faster equals less travel time not allowing outside stuff to affect as much. We will see.

sounds about right to me

i need a tank setup before buying a 25 which my next pcp will be a 25cal and i wont be hand pumping it. unless i can ony get a 3300psi tank then i will hand pump for full fills only after degassing and only up to 2000psi and then use the tank to top off the last 1000 psi..

I found that my Condor shot excellent at an average of 970 fps... UNTIL the wind went above 5mph.  I started lowering the fps and at 875-900 fps it was best with regards to wind drift.   This is in .22 cal with Barracudas and settled on an average of 930 fps, while giving up a slight amount of accuracy in the wind.

I forgot to add that at velocities of 950 fps or higher my barrel leads up pretty fast.  Then accuracy starts to wane.
